No idea if I can better that, never seen it.

I must admit I'm not one for gory stuff. Would love someone to suggest a really scary/suspenseful film. Something that puts you on the edge of your seat, but isn't full of blood and guts, I think that spoils things.

Scanners
Reanimator
Poltergeist
American werewolf in london
Dawn of the dead
Evil dead

All had there moments to equal "The Thing"

still one of my fave movies, the soundtrack just highlights the tension

1981 film is a Kurt Russell/John Carpenter classic and so open ended............

There are tonnes of grosser films as the 1981 film is quite dated now...

I also love a lot of the other films mentioned!! :-)

For a 29 year old film I still think it's one of the best horrors made.

Jeez - now that film is seriously disturbing.

L'Interieur isn't much better unless you are into pyschopaths intent on cutting someone's unborn baby out of her womb.

However if you want a suspenseful horror film without gore then 'Let the right one in' is great.

Toughest scene I can think of to watch is the murder scene in Un Prophete - it is not THAT gory but the build up has you cringing and it makes your ***** turn to ice when you watch it!

Done that for you

I have to say: the cardiac massage bit... the first time I saw that, and what happened to his head afterwards.

Mind you - great quote!

Utterly fantastic film. The effort put into the effects make the modern form of horror movie making in front of a computer seem like a cop out!

For me Alien only just beats it and its a very narrow margin. Such a good film.

Theres been endless talk of a prequel and not sure how far its got but it I have my fingers crossed is doesn't suck *****. There was the makings of a great computer game of The Thing but they ruined it by making it for consoles first rather than PC and it completely hamstrung the game.
