Please help, I know it has been around before, but please help !!!
3 Men go into a hotel.
The man behind the desk said the room costs £30, so each man paid £10 each
and went to the room.
A while later the man behind the desk realized the room was only £25.
So he sent the bellboy to the 3 Guy's room with £5.
On the way the bellboy couldn't figure out how to split £5 evenly between 3
men.
So he gave each man £1 and kept the other £2 for himself.
This meant that the 3 men each paid £9 for the room,
Which is a total of £27 and the £2 the bellboy kept is £29.
Where is the other £1?????????

You are assuming the cost of the room is £30, but it has been reduced to £25. Therefore they should have only paid £25 in total, but they paid £27, cos the bellboy nicked £2.

DW is correct.
The other way to look at it is they each had £10 spent £9 and had £1 left. Total £30
The story simply tries to confuse with who took what. £25 room, £3 chnage, £2 bellboy. Total £30
The summary misses out the £3 change and replaces it with the £2 'tip'. Play on figures.

What about this !
When they found the room should only be £25 the guys had not paid £9 per
room. They were due a £5 refund, hence they had actually paid £8.33 each,
which equals £25
Add the £3 they were given back plus the £2 the boy kept and hey
presto.....£30!
Does your head in though thinking about it...............

The problem is that you shouldn't be adding the £2 the bellboy keeps to the bill that the men paid and expecting to get £30. The correct thing to do is to subtract the £2 that the bellboy keeps from the £27 they pay, to get £25 which was the real cost of the room.

as i see it. there isn't a spare pound...
They each pay 10 pounds which is 30 pounds total.
Then the price drops to 25 pounds and they get 5 pounds change.
each of the men get 1 pound each back.. thats , man1 - 26th pound, man 2 - 27th pound , man 3 - 28th pound. the bell boy pockets the 29th and 30th pound.
for 30 pounds they pay 10 pounds each. for 25 pounds they pay 8.33 each (well roughly) that leaves 1 pound 67 spare each normally. which is 5 pounds when multiplied by 3.
What was the question? lol..
