Im looking at the scale wrong - its difficult to believe the spare needs twice as much air

..as you were

Space saver? Then it might well do as it has less contact with the road

The space saver can be expected to need a higher pressure since it will be a smaller section tyre. I must say that 60 psi or around 4 bar does sound high to me.

Nope, 60psi is the norm for space savers these days.

And not understanding PSI really does make you appear old fella!

I'd say it made him appear young. I was brought up on PSI in bike, and then car, tyres, have to think carefully when inflating in la belle France etc

One of my mates got us all banned from the local garage when he inflated his bike tyres on the air pump.
he just squeezed the trigger and held it, thinking it would be like when his dad pumped up the car tyres.
Yep: BANG!

Eric, the garage owner was NOT amused. he used to leave the pump switched off and you had to ask for air: kids with treaders would not get any

Funnily enough I had to put a Tyre saver on my car last night (Daihatsu) after hitting a pothole in the road , and written in large letters on the side of the tyre 'to be inflated to 60PSI'.
