Default What has happened to evo?

It seems to have suffered a bad makeover by whoever does Halfords aftermarket graphics for Corsas!! It is even worse than Tog Gear magazine now...

...exemplified by the two page spread on Travis 'Perkins' Pastrami and his Scooby leap in California!

I agree, EVO isn't what it used to be. Cancelled. Had subscribed since day one.

I still subscribe to evo and a few other car mags as well, they're a damn sight better than any of the women's publications out there that's for sure. I like nothing better than sitting down with a nice cuppa and leafing through a mag filled with guff about desirable cars. Well, cars and gadgets - I also subscribe to Stuff

I don't really have a problem with evo, yes there are one or two articles with some dodgy font styles and graphics but generally it's pretty easy on the eye. It features some lovely photos of cars I want with all the info that I need to make some informed purchases once I win the lottery Anyway, what the hell would I know? I'm just a woman

The subscription edition with its 'special' plain front, no graphics, looks lovely on my coffee table too

I just looked again at the Travis 'Perkins' jump thing and yes, it's bloody awful I thought it was some sort of rubbish advert at first. Shocking!

Perhaps they let the graphic's trainee loose for the day?

One would assume the got money for that 2 page spread.

They have to make money to make the Mag.

I cant be doing with Evo, I have a mate and I can always tell when he has been reading it as he starts using some of the phrases they do, Top gear is **** as well, cancelled my sub to that last year, Autocar is pretty good if a little dull occasionally.

Do they? I thought they did it as a charity

It was a news item in Planet Evo News so no sponsorship there then!

If it was advertorial they have state that as such.

I like that too, particularly the double page parts and bits and bobs adverts. I don't even own a Landy

Despite all the various car magazines' tempting offers to encourage me to subscribe for a year (special low price, free car sponge etc), I have never committed to any of them. I buy one or maybe two per month, but just decide which one (if any) looks to be the most interesting to me on the shelf when I pop to the newsagents. This means that I don't waste any money or time on the dull issues.

NB: I wonder if there has ever been an issue of EVO without a story about at least one of these?

1) Caterfield
2) Focus
3) 911
4) BMW Mini
5) Impreza

I've not even registered that as an article and it was delivered on Friday...not a good sign.

I do miss Meadon and Bovingdon's writing.

+1.I find Jap performance to be the best of a mediocre bunch.Decent articles and hasn't gone down the route of most mags with chavvy page 3 stunna throwbacks(time and a place!)

editor - nick trott. ex max power

art editor - paul lang. ex max power.

2 of the photographers are ex max power

seeing a trend here?

it's still a good read, but if you pick up a copy from even 6 months ago there's a whole different feel to the mag now.

the good bits are still good, it's just not quite classic EVO

It will be a pity if Evo goes downhill.

Has Harry Metcalfe nothing to do with the mag nowadays?

For news and reviews I read Autocar. Its far and away the best magazine out there and its weekly. Fortunately where I work we subscribe to it, so I get to read it for free and look like I'm working.

Personally the only car magazine I subscribe to is Octane. I just love the older cars and stories.

We always have copies of Car (another one that the company buys) and Evo floating around the office. I enjoy Car, but Evo is **** to be honest.

Meadon and Bovingdon I think are back at Evo, having failed with their website project and allegedly shafting a friend in the process

I presume you are being ironic when you post that?

The news in Autocar is akin to a cross between News of the World and the Daily Mail. It is all photoshopped pictures and speculation.

The reviews aren't much better, especially first drives. Flavour of the month this week. Group test loser next week.

At least evo does not hide it's existence as a dream car lovers wet dream.

it just doesn't feel quite right does it?

not saying i hang off every word from harry metcalfe, it's just he said things in a style that seemed to fit the mag.

i know he owns/owned it, but it just flowed. nick trotts comments just seemed a little strained. it's change and i guess we'll get used to it, but i hope it gets the old feel back soon.

and the first time the editors comments finish with "and next month the question we all want to ask, spit or swallow?" will be me cancelling my subs within the hour
