Default Eels in the River Thames

Just been reported on the local BBC news that there has been a 98% decrease of Eels in the Thames,Normal type of presentation, few eels being shown caught, few eels being eaten then an expert comes on and guess what ! Yup it could be down to Global warming.
Its really doing my head in

How much more!
I think my headache is down to global warming though!

Watched a great program about the Alps yesterday, which started going on about glaciers..... Then they dropped the clanger and said within times of records the glaciers have already retreated and returned further than at present.

Messiah complex within the scientific community if you ask me.
We are the almighty human race!

I beg to differ - but each to their own thank goodness

Bloody horrible things, came from an era when there was no decent food. But I suppose they sustain the soul at midnight with 10 pints of heavy sloshing about

How did they deduce the 98% figure? 98% of what?

I went with my Dad to a fishing match he was in on the Thames near Walton.

He had a big lob worm out on a leger and the rod jumped off the ground. He fought the fish for a very long time before we managed to land it. It was an eel weighing well over 10 lbs and when we got it on the bank was when the real fight to control it began!

In those days an eel was not regarded as a fish since it can live out of water so it was not counted in the match and was an unofficial British record until comparatively recently

My mum made it into an Austrian style casserole and I can still remember how good it was to eat.
