Chinese Takeaways
How is it they rarely take cards and when they take cash you are instructed by a sign on the wall to check your change as mistakes cannot be rectified later.
All Indian establishments in my vast experience take cards, is it just our local Chinese takeaways, the purveyors of MSG goop with lumps in rather than the more gourmet "Flame and Wok" in the centre which does take cards.
The place was pretty busy tonight, for the ten minutes I was in five people each spending £20 upwards, I wonder how much of that goes through the books ? not a dig at Chinese people just bemused by the 1970's style payment options of cash and cheque.

Ditto. This may sound bully but i can assure you this is very True.
A local Cantonese restaurant owner (which i use to go to) was playing poker against another guy in a local cash game when it got out of hand.
My local lost his restaurant to this other guy on one hand... the food went down hill afterwards, and after many complaints the original owner was recruited as a advisor to sort the restaurant back out....
The food is now spot on and he lives to tel the tale and still smiles
He also goes to our local bookies where 'Lee' the owner informs me he camps there all day and walks out penniless regularly...

Where do you all live? lol.
I can use a card, unless they deliver it to my door, than it has to be cash, and of you spend over a £20 (including delivery!) you get a free bag of prawn crackers. Good times.
I have just stopped using my local Chinese takeaway, as I have found one much nicer about a 10 min drive away, again I can pay with a debit card.

I have a few Chinese mates, and can confirm what has been posted above, one of them used to get hassled constantly by the tax man, they were wanting him to do all his books/orders/receipts etc etc in a proper manner, and he told them to get stuffed because the way he does it, is the traditional way of doing it

i've never had a receipt from a Chinese but then again i've never cared. Lets face it when you theoretically could be eating cat amongst other dead household pets do you really care about receipts and taking cards?

Don't think this practice is limited to Chinese takeaways, it also applies to takeaways selling kebabs houses, local chippies, pizzas parlours, local fried chicken/burger joints. In fact any small scale, non-chain, family run type businesses.

Our local chinese takes a card, delivers and you get free prawn crackers, fortune cookies and a tub of fruit into the bargain, whatever the cost of the order..
I also used to go to the Casinoes in Manchester with a friend who was well into the gambling, and have have seen many chinese guys blow 10k in a night..
Cant see the point myself, but the subsidised ale and food are a good enough reason for me to turn up...
