Hi Andy
I want to learn chinese & i've been looking around for books i can study before taking a course. Have you any recommendations?
which form of chinese can you speak?
All I know is that there is traditional, simplified chinese
cantonese & manderin. Is simplified cantonese now the 'standard' as i've heard that even a chinese person sometimes doesnt fully understand another dialect of chinese.
I know there are 4 "alphabets" or phonetic groups & as chinese is all about sounds & pitches how can i hear these 'sounds'
I have a lot of chinese films that are done in different dialects & i have noticed the 'written' & 'spoken' translations are quite different.
Any help would be appreciated thanks
Stefan
