There is a road near me that are pure Ice. Plus it's on a slight hill. If I lived at the top of it, I wouldn't be driving down it, as I'd never stop at the bottom. Same as getting up it, you wouldn't stand a chance.

Just because there isn't 6ft of snow on the ground doesn't mean all roads are clear from snow & ice.

I live in NE Hants and spent 3 hours trying to get to work ( Heathrow ) this morning. I managed 4 miles in 3 hours before I turned back. The CRV copes admirably, but everywhere is gridlocked. The roads around here are sheet ice. Anything not 4x4 can't make any gradient.

If Curry's were giving away free tellies, Weatherspoons free beer and McDonalds free Burgers it would flush a lot of people out, there is definitely a propensity to bail very easily, J4ckos mate's boss picked up some of his employees who were "snow bound" up the road from him. Its a tough call, people have different perception of the situation, some base it on their front lawn and wont venture forth, some over commit, some see it as an opportnuity for a skive.

Some companies force people to do what they shouldnt be doing, some let them get away with murder.

There is too many milking it. Usually depends on whether or not they get paid for turning up. For example half of our office can't get to work (salary paid), however everyone on the shopfloor who clocks in (me included) has miraculously got to work. Lazy b@stards.

My son's school actually closed today for the first time! I still went out as I thought, pah, there wee loads closed last week and the roads were fine.

How wrong was I? The roads were terrible, and I happened to follow the gritters first trip down the Stafford road at about 9.30 am.

If this stuff keeps coming i'll be staying put, not everyone has 4wd.
