Should Teachers be docked 3 days pay?
With 1,000's of schools closed again tomorrow - 3rd day for many - should teachers be docked 3 days pay?
Everyone else has to get their sorry asses in, or lose days leave/make time up/lose pay.

Yes they should. Our local primary is shut yet I managed to drive the 50 mile round trip to work and back. In fact, my sons teacher only lives 2 streets away and I can see the school from my house. It takes the ****.

LMAO, Pete you ****-stirring old fekker
I think you'll find that school closures have NOTHING to do with the staff at the chalk-face. It's down to the Heads and the Governors......
Every teacher (and lecturer for that matter) I know WANTS to be at work. There's a little matter of the syllabus that needs to be delivered to a timescale.
I'll be going back in tomorrow - I doubt any students will be in, but I will. For a while at least.
If you want to blame someone, for once, it isn't the teaching staff - look a bit closer to home (IIRC you're a Governor)

If someone shuts MY workplace without my consent (stopping ME from working), they pay for my time.
Freelance people work the same way - the time has to be paid for.

It does seem that some schools have bailed a little to easily or for too long, our elder two are up in Macc and managed to get the bus there, middle kids mate turned up at 1pm today having got to our house on foot easily, half way to school, another half mile he would be there but still no school, I cant understand why they are still off and it was doubly annoying as I was in the middle of "having a word" with the missus when the door went !
I don't think teachers should lose pay, it isnt their decision and its a few extra days hol, nobody would refuse that, by and large they arent paid that well by and large and have to put up with our current crop of objectionable yoof.

It's the Heads decision, taken in consultation with the Chair of Governors ...... sometimes the LEA gives strong advice.
Don't come the old Elf n Safety chestnut ..... show me where anyone has claimed successfully against a school for opening in normal winter weather!!
The Teachers who make it in can get paid - most are viewing it as a top-up to their low levels of holiday allowance!!!

The annoying thing is that my kids' school website is already pre-empting (sp?) a closure on Monday (!) FFS! Just reading it now. I'm glad that they're thinking ahead rather than just drop it on the parents on Monday (it gives us time to make alternative arrangements), but OMFG!

But to bring it back to the intent stated by our original poster.....
I'll still get paid for my time off - if you don't like it, I will get over it If you want the same deal, come play on my side of the fence. Otherwise, whine all you like

Well, I would introduce a law to state that Teachers who report for duty and carry out 'all that work they have to do in the holidays' ....... would get paid.
Those who treated it as a holiday would get paid NOWT .... Teachers claim to be professionals, professionals don't shirk when a snowflake appears!!
A compromise would be to remove the half term holiday at the end of May - why should a half term be there anyway? It's about time Teachers and the Education system was dragged into the year 1970 (then we can gradually pull them into the real world, decade, by decade).

Let's change them then ........
Make them work the lost days - eat into their substantial holidays - we shall soon see teachers demanding to come into work then (which will be quite a novelty to witness for most Governing Boards!).

where's your evidence that the teachers HAVEN'T been demanding to go to work? This isn't the Teaching staffs' fault - it's the management and establishment (idiot Governors etc)

Certainly should. I've not missed a days work this week, despite driving a rear-wheel drive car. Have had to get pushed up hills by people at least once every day over the last 3 days, and dig the car out yesterday morning when I got stuck locally, but still made it!
Too many people just not making the effort IMO!

that doesn't count as REAL evidence. Fail. To the back of the class. or for those of a newer age, "Not Yet Achieved"
PLUS, it's not just teachers, it's the entire workforce who didn't go to work (by your definition) - it's all about inclusivity

and there needs to be a balance as the Education sector is contracted to deliver the Exam Boards' syllabi over x-amount of weeks. If this isn't met, it technically fraud.
I have this battle every year with the Senior Management Team (& fekkin Governors) - they try to shave x amount off each subject. I can see why they attempt it - to maximize efficiency. However, there is a point where basically if "Johhny" don't understand "it" by a certain amount of time, tough sh1te.
That just isn't right.

Maybe the parents should sue the Head/Governors for failure to provide a school service? Surely it is up to them to ensure that a school is capable of providing a safe environment, and if they can't sprinkle a bit of grit on the ground and turn the boiler up a notch or two then they are failing in their jobs?
Several hundred times loss of earnings for the day to look after your own kids should focus the headmaster's mind somewhat!

There is a slight issue though - the same ethos should apply to all other employment sectors where a service has been withdrawn/denied etc......
This could get messy.....
