Default Ebay WTF - No P&P charge on some items!

I'm selling a few things on eBay a couple of which are Wii games, got to the part on the ad where I put in postage and packaging costs. Here's where things go **** up for me.

Turns out I am not allowed to charge postage or packaging on the Wii games, how is that right? I have to pay to send it and will no doubt get raped by the buyer if it arrives damaged.

No matter what option I choose to send from 1st class recorded etc to standard 2nd class it all has to be free!!!!

Now I buy a lot more on eBay then I sell but I just assumed that those putting things down as free delivery were doing it to "make the sale".

Stupid eBay!!

Rant over.

That's not a rant, it's the reason why nobody uses ebay any more...

I more or less stopped using it when they started insisting I take Paypal. I'd sooner be paid in magic beans.

I sold a few DVDs over xmas and discovered I didn't even get the option to leave buyers negative feedback either... wtf?!

its the same for a lot of items, as you say its not free for you to post so why shouldn't you be able to charge? the best thing to do is include the postage price in the listing, the only problem with that is it will mean your item may be less desirable to some purchasers.

I'm guessing that's what everyone is doing now anyhoo, but it just means that people may not package items as well as they would have previously.

thats the problem i think it boils down to the fact that people were charging £££ for p+p to make a bit of extra, i always over wrap anything i sell on ebay or on here and post minimum of signed for delivery, just to make sure it gets there, hopefully safe and well,
if you were to post something 2nd class because of the of "rules" there is nothing to stop the buyer saying they haven't had it, opening a claim with paypal and they will give them there money straight back.

It's daft, I know people used to stick stupid P&P amounts on there but surely, as I did, you read the ad and avoid that one.

It's stupid to make it free too, they obviously know that you can't post for free!!!

I will still package the games correctly even though I will no doubt dip out, even my buy it now price is low.

Is there anything to stop you from offering badly packaged 2nd class delivery for free, but giving the buyer the choice to pay a little extra for a better service?

I always used to insist on using an insured, traceable service, really just to protect myself in the event that a buyer claims stuff hasn't arrived. Now I'm not sure what to do

What do people use these days instead of Ebay?

I sell DVDs now and again. Used to start them at 1p, with 90p postage.

Now I just start them at 99p, so that the postage is covered at least if they go for that. Hardly worth it sometimes, but the positive feedback is always useful.

You obviously missed the bit in the ad that says:

"Collection preffered from Wisbech Cambridgeshire."

So I doubt he would be bothered

eBay changed to free post on certain items like DVD's & CD's so they could match main rivals Amazon & Play.com who both offer free P&P.

One way round it would be to list in a different catagory completely (one that allows a P&P charge) and hope people find your item by keyword search rather than by catagory.
