stranger tried to pick up a 6 year old neigbours lad on Christmas eve
We live in a cul de sac - at one end. Christmas eve the lad appears on our doorstep asking to come in to play with our two. He seemed a little quiet but played on the wii with the girls untill his dad came to pick him up.
It came to light this morning that a man stopped the lad on the way down from the other end of the cul de sac (where he lives) and asked him to come and play with him. Fortunately the boy refused and ran down to our house - thank god!
It suddenly shatters your illusion about how safe your local area is, our kids are always riding/walking up to see their friends (150yds or so) the street is quiet, little or no traffic except neigbours cars and pretty much everybody knows everybody by name and their children are in and out of each others houses which is a nice way to be.
I do not want to let our two out now, i know i will but it is worrying the hell out of me and i think i will be taking a passing interest in everybody i do not recognise.
All the neighbours now know (grapevine) what happened and the Police have now been informed
We never, ever see a Police or community officer in our street, would be nice to have a 'presence' once in a while

agreed, not the smartest thing, it is a flat straight run from one end to another, you can see clearly to the other end of the cul de sac and vise versa. If our kids go up we usually accompany them or watch them go and also call up to the house they are going to before to let them know they have 'incoming'.
The lad was playing some 10-15 yds of from his front door in fornt of a house when approached by the stranger

Its a real worry, I think that today's comparatively relaxed official attitude towards those who break the law make it feel easier for these dangerous and twisted characters to try it on.
Obviously education of young children about this sort of thing is vital but also supervision should not be forgotten and it is so easy for these evil characters to strike if given the opportunity.
I hope this bloke is caught before he succeeds in his ambitions.
