Don't You Just HATE British Gas!
Again and again they ring me in the evenings, at home.
I have told them to stop, they say they will remove my number from their DataBase - then, they ring AGAIN!!!
Tonght they rang to 'enhance' my Boiler cover ... I said No thanks - go away.
Then they said they could save me £££££££££££££££££££££££££££'s on my energy bills ... would I be interested in saving money?
I said that BG could give me FREE Gas and Electric - I STILL wouldn't be interested!! Yet he still carried on his spiel ....
Do they know that people HATE them!!??

Just tell them you're interested in switching, ask them to hang on as there's someone at the door (or on the phone if the guy is stood at your door)....then just leave them and see how long they hang on

Register with the Telephone Preference Service. Wait a month and all calls from legitimate firms should stop. We get maybe 5 calls per year now, although we have been with the service for quite some time.
If someone does call we inform them that we are recording the call (not) and that we will forward the tape to the relevant authorities if they ever contact us again. That has worked with all firms to date.

I registered with TPS after someone mentioned it on here a while back now.
Its one of the best tips I've read on Scoobynet. Since registering I can't recall any marketing calls, not one!!! They used to wind me up something chronic, so I am well happy with the outcome!

I had one recently though not British Gas, it was some internet company selling broadband packages. I told the caller to hold on a minute and handed the phone to my 2 year old. He spent a good few minutes trying to reason with a child to try and get me back on the phone, it was so funny listening to him.

if you already have contact with them, then even the TPF can;t stop them. However,
my GF had problems with her bank, ringing her every month asking her to come infor a finantial review, when she asked is something wrong they told her no each time, just want to give you the best service. she went to one, they couldn't do anything for her, so we thought that was the end of it. nope they kept rining.
we did manage to get rid in the end, I had to ring up the bank ombedsman for advice they said the option you have is send them a letter asking them to remove your details, (has to be in wrting) i can;t remember exactly which section it is, might be 18, but the data protection act means they have to, by law, remove your details from there system, or any marketing systems if your a customer, and not contact you again unless to do directly with an active or oustanding account.
This is inforcable by law and the case will be taken up for you by one of the watchdogs (can't remember the exact one because it wasn't the ombudsman).

With a passion... After £75 for 2 weeks gas during the last cold snap.
Of course the bill would have been much smaller if npower had managed to get any part of our attempted switch right
