I love the HD, I dont love the fact that my box has just died and I can either pay £10 per month extended warranty or I can pay a one of £65 call out charge to have it repaired / replaced.
Considering the fact I pay sky nearly £70 per month anyway for tv and broadband, I think its a **** take.
If I could get virgin or a decent freeview signal I'd have told them to shove their box. Sadly I have had to book a day off tomorrow to await an "engineer" who will arrive between 12 and 5pm.

Well I've had Sky HD for 3 weeks now and the footy is immense.
I'm not into movies but I suppose if people were then they'd go BluRay rather than take out HD for movies.
But if you like your Sport then its worth while, if only F1 was in HD

I've had 2 Samsung boxes, they are excellent quality! the first one lasted till the engineer was about to head off.
Watched Life on BBC HD last night and if i'm honest, it was bloody fantastic!

If you take movies and sport, I reckon it would be worth it.
We don't have either but have HD and its OK. Sometimes the programs look really good, other just look OK.
I'm about to ditch our multiroom sub as we don't use it. I would also imagine that Sky will drop the HD charge eventually.

Yep HD is really, really good, but it isn't sommat i'd be prepared to pay for. I watch a movie on Blueray and i soon get over everything it brings over a dvd. When / if they put BBC1/2, ITV1,2,3, C4 and C5 in full hd i might go for it

We have the family pack and sport. It costs a bit but still have not regretted going to HD. I thought beforehand that it would not be that much better but changed my mind when we got it.
The terrestrial programmes are such a poor choice these days that it is a relief to be able to get such a wide choice on Sky. Don't often see much worth watching on the normal channels.

The actual stuff that is in proper HD is stunning - BBC HD being one of the true HD channels. A lot of what Sky broadcast on their HD film channels is upscaled - still better than normal, but not strictly HD. I've gone down the Freesat HD route and the only thing I would like is the HD sports channels- it really is much better - but seeing as I have an issue with giving Mr Murdoch my hard earned money, I'll live without them

Slighty off topic, but will a freesat box plug straight into a sky dish socket?
were considering getting sky to install a communal dish it works out at £45 per flat if no one actually takes up a subscription and extra discout if some do. Any drawbacks anyone know of.

My Freesat plumbed into the existing Sky wiring and dish. You Get BBC HD for free
I saw a Sky HD demo, the rep flipped from HD to ordinary and there was a big difference but to be honest I think it was just that the ordinary one was utterly sh*te and unacceptable! I'm convinced 'ordinary' has been made to look worse!

Oh yeah, mine still has two inputs so I still get all the Sky+ features, pause, record and all that. The menus and the remote aren't as nice as Sky I must say... that said, I like how it put series into their own folders

I used up my last days holiday yesterday to wait for the engineer to turn up........yup - no show.
So I phoned them up to complain, got fobbed off on the phone, very sorry sir etc etc.
There will be a stinking letter heading off this afternoon.
I think I'll be asking for compensation for a days wasted holiday.

Chris are you sure?
Talking of your hard earned money, when are you coming out for a beer?
I couldnt wait until this afternoon to write them a letter, its on its way already.
I'll let you know the outcome, although I feel its a real cheek to ask the customer to repair Sky's faulty box, so that Sky can continue to charge the customer for its service...

Well the "new" HD box lasted all of 24 hours before it died.
I now have to wait until Wednesday for an engineer to come around to fit another reconditioned box.
Apparently these are classed as Grade A boxes.
When I was on the phone to Sky yesterday, I requested a brand new box, they told me that I cant have one as I'm not a new customer.
At this rate I wont be a customer much longer anyway.

:-) Listen I work (quite) hard for my money thank you very much. I'll speak to Andie when I'm next up in Herts for a beer mate.
On Ray T's point - as Bob says, the Freesat box will plug straight in to a Sky satellite dish (mine does exactly that). What it might be worth doing is having the alignment of the dish properly checked. I was amazed at how the signal strength was improved with a few adjustments by my local supplier (cost £30)

I've had mine for about 12 months now - very happy with it. Don't have movies or sports, but make every effort to watch the equivalent transmitted HD TV show.
FX HD for NCIS, ITV HD for the Saturday movies (Star Wars etc) and BBC HD + the others too.
Sky have been trying it on with the warranty, but I'm of a mind that if the box goes, I'll just cancel, as I don't need it THAT much - a Freesat box will go in its place.
The other GOOD thing though is the Sky +. I NEVER thought I'd buy in to it, as we had a video, recorded lots of stuff, and NEVER watched it.
However, + has made life that little bit easier.
In terms of reliability, I think I've had a couple of freeze ups during the year, but despite my loathing of the new EPG, since it's been installed, the box has been a lot more reliable.
Go for it imho

Ive had sky hd for 38 days ....
I am on my second box and have a service call booked for Tursday to replace it again.
If I have know how unreliable the boxes were I would have stayed with Sky +
Even the engineers are saying the boxes are hopeless
