What do you mean about time?

It is not uncommon to be charged with manslaughter or death by dangerous driving if you kill someone with a car.

Why the Daily Mail spin?

To be fair though, pedestrians these days are a danger to themselves. They often walk in the road instead of on a clear pavement specially provided for them and they cross the road without looking and without any indication of what they are about to do, very often with their backs to the traffic for goodness sake!

What happened to the codes which always used to be taught to schoolchildren which meant that they had an awareness of traffic on the road?

Les,

Those codes went out of the window when the "it's my right to do xyz" came in through the door. I've lost count of the times I've had people (kids and adults alike) stepping off the kerb in front of my vehicle, quite oblivious to my presence as they are wrapped up in their mobile phone conversation or their iPod.

...and to be brutally honest, I've nearly done it myself which makes me no better.

The one time I actually walked out in front of a car without realising its presence was in London near my old office. In my defence, I looked and there was nothing there, I stepped out and this GWhiz had come out of a side street, obscured by parked cars so I had no idea it was there bearing down on me. I suspect the GWhiz would have been written off if it had hit me. Lesson learned for me though!

Much, much more likely to be charged with death by dangerous than manslaughter CPS shy away from this which is my point.

What DM spin? Do you have DM on the brain???
The expressing of an opinion with just a few words is not new or anything to do with the DM

Yes I am sure you are right about the "rights" bit, but nevertheless how stupid it is to ignore the fact that there might be a car on the road where it is entitled to be just where you are going to walk with no thought for your own safety and the problem that you are just about to give to the driver?

Its all a matter of that old fashioned idea of "give and take" and thinking of others too.

They have finally gone, thanks to Lying Labour who have criminalised and vilified the motorist.
Now pedestrians don't have to bother any more, it'll be the driver's fault

I think the law should be changed to side with the motorist purely by the fact that so many pedestrians take chances and just cross without looking, leaving the poor hapless driver to either cause harm or crash to avoid the pedestrian.

Obviously mounting the kerb and chasing the unfortunate tourist down until running him over is classed as a bit OTT
