How many people diagnose themselves off the internet?

My previous Manager did. He was searching the net with his symptoms whilst we were in the office one day. He said Lou I'm gonna die. I said don't be so stupid! He was dead within a month due to cancer. He may have been my Manager but we were close and I respected him.
It was very sad and I miss him now over 4 years ago

I have done a bit of exploring and taken my own diagnosis to the doc, strangely usually right on the odd occasion I have done it. lol
The internet is a great tool, but can drive you to insanity if you read and believe everything thats on there. So much contradiction.

Thank god for Wikipedia! Personally, I can't see the point of spending decades learning a profession when everything you need to know is on the internet.

I generally think looking up things on the internet is a bad thing, as you don't have much to go on other than how you feel and alot of people could end up thinking they are not long for this world.A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.
We did however help a recent consultant of mine out, by logging on the internet and showing him what had happened to me, in the hope seeing would be better than explaining. He even said that was a first for him.

Yep. Put my symptoms into a search and it turns out my hard drive is buggered
Seriously though I have searched symptoms and then told my GP what I thought was wrong to which he said he would do the diognosis. He came up with the same result and got really grumpy about it. He ended up suggesting that maybe I should look for another doctor if I felt the need to use him to confirm the opinions of -and I quote- "the planet of the geeks".

My wife's doctor once used Google to look something up, which appalled the wife no end. It may or may not be coincidence that we're currently taking the same doctor to court for negligence...

Coupled with the information on the Net I would say that you also need the benefit of a trained person with practical experience to listen to the symptoms, make a few checks of his own, and come up with a diagnosis which should certainly be more reliable than what you work out from the Net.
You could drive yourself crackers working out what you think you might have!

The net of a billion lies cannot be the sole source of medical diagnosis, surely?

Like everyone else, I use the internet to try to diagnose things. It is a bit hit and miss really.
What it IS good for is once you have found out what is wrong with you looking at all the various help sites and discussions.
