Default Why is my car insurance sooooo high ?

OK, 2001 Vauxhall Zafira - worth about £1000 (knocking around in it for a while)
I have no claims, no points, live in a low risk area, am 38.

Best so far - £240 !! While that might sound low, its a quarter of the value of the car !

Dont understand it. Used gocompare, compare the market, directline etc etc - all about the same.

My wife just renewed hers - similar details (36, no points, claims, etc) on her BMW cab which is worth 10x the Zafira and her best quote was £248 !!

Wierd !

They're probably a lot easier to nick than your mrs's bmw as well, which will make a huge difference to its insurance rating.

As said above, they are not worried about the value of your car, but the value of the car you could hit.

And obviously a number of other factors, like who you could hurt and how much they could claim.

I was expecting under £200 easily but not the case.
I insured my Porsche 996 Turbo (2004 / worth about £55,000) last year - for £700.
Yes thats harder to steal, but is more likely to be targeted (therefore damaged even if is not stolen) for stealing, vandalism etc etc.

Oh well, I just expected a 1k bucket to be cheaper to insure.

IIRC some insurers charge more for TPF&T due to the pikey factor

£240 is about right mate. Thats not expensive either.

Don't think for one minute that the cheaper a car the cheaper Insurance. The people above are quote right in saying you could hit something much more expensive than your car. Also what are you going to take care of more? Your 59 plate pride and joy? Or your T reg Zafira worth £1000?

You can not compare one insurance policy to another. Its my pet hate when I get a call from some numpty who asks why his mate down the road is only paying £500, and his mates is a 1.6 not a 1.8 like his..

Haha, thankfully Ive moved on from that now

Look on the bright side - your Porsche insurance should come down next time as it's worth about £15k less than last year

I had a similar quote for my dirt bike. I've gone with 3rd party only for £60 pa. If my bike is stolen less than once every four years I'm ahead.
