Why can't our politicians do this when they do something wrong?

I don't think suicide, if that's what happened here, should be seen/advocated as an honorable way out.
Getting drunk at an inappropriate time is hardly the crime of the century.
I hope this guy didn't commit suicide 'just' for that.
The Japanese do not accept suicide as honorable, in fact quite the opposite. It brings great shame and often great debt on the families involved, e.g. the families of those who throw themselves in front of trains are given a very substantial (huge) bill for the disruption caused to the rail network.
The Japanese are struggling with a very high suicide rate, especially amongst young people. It's seen as so shameful that it's not talked about or even covered up.
A really beautiful young woman that used to visit my office two or three times a week died in a gas filled car alongside her boyfriend last year.
Why? Because he had a gambling debt
It didn’t even get a mention in the local rag!

We hear of things like Hari Kiri, Face, Honour and assume the opposite.
Obviously no one in their right mind would suggest suicide is appropriate for getting p1ssed or much anything else for that matter.
The sending a of bill (to the family)for disruption to the railway is somewhat redolent of the Chinese practise of sending a bill for the bullet to the families of people who are executed. Do you think there is some kind of common cultural link here? Maybe regarding the rights of the community v the individual?
