BB 8900 Curve Help
Hey All,
I've just had a Blackberry 8900 Curve for work. Just getting my head around it but there is one thing I cannot work out.
Can you set it to chime or sound when an e-mail comes in? I've checked the settings and it's not obvious.
It looks like it may only be via an application or crackberry. Can anyone shed any light?
Cheers

Thx for the reply.
I don't seem to have any option in 'set up' other than;
Set Up Wizard
Set Up Wi-Fi
Set Up Bleutooth
Tried all these. Have also tried setting a new profile up but there is no option to set any ring tone or chime for incoming mail.
blubs (taking a break after trying this since about 10am this morning!!)

Get downloading some apps for it now!
Start with quickpull lite (can be found free) and Berry Buzz (can be found cheap)
Theres also a free app called Poynt which is rather good for the 8900, finds cinema listings, restraunts and any other business you need whereever you are.

Oh listen to you Blackberry nuts! You make them sound like the best thing since sliced bread.
One thing to say....
"Should have bought an iPhone!"
Oh, hang on, thats not right is it!!!!!
Blubs, do yourself a favour, get on BBM (BlackBerry Messenger) and add 254D4E45 Thats meeeee. Im usually about to answer little questions, and help where I can. Comes in quite handy.
BerryBuzz is cool. Check some of the download websites for demo's and discounts. BerryWeather is also a good one, comprehensive. QuickPull I agree definatly, then its really down to what you want from it really.
I have to say, getting back to the OP..... The setting up for alerts is simply mindblowing lol. I still only have very basic alerts, but have to say, most of the time the sounds are off, and I rely on the different coloured alerts from BerryBuzz But there are a LOT of options, in holster and out of holster, for each profile.
Quickest way to find them is hit the berry button, select the speaker which allows you to choose which profile, select advanced from the bottom, et voila you can edit each profile from there.

Neither anymore, wait for the 9630 Tour or the 9700 Onyx if you ask me.
If you want one of the current ones, it would be the 8900 for me.
There is always the 8520 Curve (newest one on the market in the UK)
The differences between the 8900 and 9000 are as explained already.
Keys are not actually any bigger on the Bold, just a different keyboard, and interestingly merged where the manly 8900's are seperate
Also the 3G vs EDGE battle rages on. Day to day it really makes very little difference to usage other than 3G being more of a drain on the battery.
Jaybird, fair observation, but for me I hate touch phones, so the BB wins it. Definatly the new generation

Cheers. I've never really had a usefull phone before if that makes sense! Well they've all made calls and texts but apps are obviously the thing to have these days. Would be good to be able to find cinema listings or places to eat etc.
Do you know when the new ones are due for UK release? Just scanned through a few reviews on the net and as you say, it's probably worth waiting when I'm spending the money.

There is no proper date for the Onyx, but I believe the Tour should be with us by Xmas, some networks anyway.
The 8520 is here already on Voda.
There are some good write ups on Crackberry for the reading. Kev M is a pretty down to earth reviewer.
There are useful apps for the BB's, which work on most models these days, not as many as the iPhone. But then I use just a select few apps for my daily life anyway
Having your email arrive real time, have international NON network IM (usable even with the GSM turned off and using WiFi instead) and various other tasks.
Of all the smart phones I have owned, I can officially say I use my smartphone properly now, and would not wanna be without one again now
Given the delivery dates, you would not be daft to get an 8900 as a first BB, and then decide which of the new ones would suit you best next year.

I got a curve i love it as i can get email alerts from a programme i use on the net and even reply back if i need to, i did have a N series nokia and although i could get the alerts i couldn`t reply back. Ok i also have a 1st gen iPhone and can get and reply its just the touch screen that i just dont like. Oh and i aso have a G1 and that dont reply back to who i want without giving all the message boby. there is a fault with the BB though that the iPhone and G1 does ok so i`m just waiting for a phone with the combination of all 3. Oh and i love the BB for GTalk and Yahoo i can get them on the iPhone and G1 but their 3rd party DLs one think about the BB i`m not happy with i have to pay to be able to talk in real life chat to my facebook friends i get that free on iPhone G1 and Nseries.

Do you mean on Facebook chat ? I could have sworn there were a couple of apps out there which linked all IM programs inc FB, for free.
Ultimatly it sounds like the issues are more with the software developers, than the devices themselves.
Its a frustration for me too lol

To be honest I have never looked into it properly, FB messaging seems so unreliable on a PC, god knows what its like on a mobile. Could be good, but hey lol.
I see what you mean though, not too many IM apps out there for free, not that merge them all anyway.
I spend most of my time on BBM anyway lol

BBM is superb
Great for international chat on the move. Dont have to use a GSM connection for it. Made some good mates all over the world through it. Always nice to have people on tap who can help with any issues etc

Then choose advanced and pick the profile - all the ring tones and alerts are in there (We'll they are on mine anyway)
