The economy of coke
I heard on the news today that the Royal Navy had intercepted a boat and found EIGHT tonnes of cocaine stashed away!! That is a lot of cocaine.
8 tonnes =8,000kgs
8,000kgs = 8,000,000 baggies
Each baggy will be cut by at least 50%, as much as 90%.
= 16,000,000 and 80,000,000 baggies
at £20 a baggy
= £320million and £1.6bn
That is an awful lot of cashflow to fall out of the drug economy!!!

in south america 90 percent pure coke is 3000 per kilo probably cheaper for a bulk buy.
so cost to importer is 8000 x 3000 = 24000000 or 24 million. landed in east africa value is 15,000 per kilo once landed in spain value is 34,000-40,000 per kilo (euros) once in UK while still 90 percent pure value is 53,000-58,000 per kilo.
before anyone asks a chef I know used to run a prison kitchen and got friendly with a notorious drug importer.

I doubt the importers are that bothered to be honest, and I dont think the claims of it making a 'massive dent' in the drug industry are correct.
8 tonnes may sound like a lot, but the load that got busted was probably one of 10, 20 or 50 loads coming in during a year, and the importers expect to occasionally lose a load or two - its just an expense they write off.
What normally happens is that the load will be part owned by the importers, and part owned by the cartel in south america. The importers will sell their half, and the cartels half, and pay the cartel out of the sale price.
Rather than the cartel just getting their standard 'trade price' for the drugs, which cost them next to nothing to produce, they make loads more getting paid a percentage out of the eventual wholesale price in the UK.
The importers wont have paid the cartel anything for the drugs up front ( assuming they deal with them a lot ) and if a load does get caught, then the cartel will write it off ( they are only losing the production price, which is negligable ) and the importers wont owe them anything.
This way the importers are kept sweet by the cartel, the cartel dont care about losing one load in ten or twenty as they make such huge profits on the ones that do get through losing 1% of their income is a risk worth taking for the extra profits from splitting a load with the importers rather than just selling direct to them.
There are a few good and interesting books about the coke trade and how the system works that go into a lot more detail about it, you'd be surprised how much is taken on trust between the cartels and the importers once they have done a few loads together, and also the massive profits that can be made on even relatively small loads ( less than half a tonne ! ).

the wholesalers would'nt get anywhere near that price
its a bit like forged currency -- the forgers would be lucky to get 10% of the face value in the first transaction of the presses

I think it's just basic economics Jacko. Anything where there's a supply chain with each stage taking a cut the value/price at source is obviously not going to be the same as final market value.

I stopped searched one fella on Sunday, as I suspected he'd either be going equipped, or on his way to see a handler to get rid of whatever he'd already stolen.
I kept him there for 20 minutes as I patted him down, went through his backpack, ran checks on him etc to see if he was wanted.
The cheeky Snaf then told me he was late for his appointment to get his fix from his dealer as I'd kepth him so long. I told him to give ,e the dealers number and I'd call him, though he didm't fall for that trick, at which point he said "Lend me 50p so I can phone him. I only have £5 to get my gear".
Instead, I followed him for almost 10 minutes until sent to another job, just in case he was stupid enough to go to his dealer.

Unfortunately, until 'celebrities' like Angus Deayton, Kate Moss, Kerry Katona, and the rest are properly punished for using the stuff & thus making it look cool in the eyes of impressionable yoofs there will always be a demand large enough to justify these large shipments
Get a few of them into orange boiler suits and down on their hands and knees cleaning our streets, or hospitals. That should discourage one or two of them
And public services, like the BBC, or the Government for instance, should definitely have a zero tolerance policy for junkies. That's our money they're buying their **** with

not really, you have done the old "street Value" valuation. yes, it is a lot of drugs to lose (hardly like a bit down the back of the sofa , or now where did i put that!!) but 8000 kilos in reality is nowhere near that COST to the cartels producing it. i am sure they wont be best pleased though
As I said it was a comment on cashflow in the illicit drug economy! The cashflow occurs when the wholesale product becomes the retail product.
And wow - so many experts on the drug trade - well impressed, init!

He is now scarred for life, minus 1 arm and his twig and berrys. His hand melted to them during the fire.
