TV Link (sky magic eye thingy)
Does anyone have any knowledge of these things? if scoobynet provides the answer il eat my hat
I have one change the channel of sky in another room - linked to the box in the living room.
I have run a coax cable out of the RF2 socket on the back of the sky box to the other tv in room 2 - picture works fine, happy days. However, when i put the TV Link in the back of the 2nd tv (to enable me to change the channel from 2nd room) and then connect the coax to it, it doesnt work..
..the light on the tv link comes on fine, so this indicates the power supply from the RF2 outlet is working..and if i plug the tv link straight in the back of the sky box and cover the front, the magic eye thing picks up the remote signal - it just wont do it when i stick a cable in between....
what is the reason for this? type of cable etc?

When we set ours up,
you need to go into the menu;s on the skybox to enable the magic eye, and if i recall turn on the 5V feed
after that its just a matter of finding the right channel on your tv ,(as it will be an analogue signal)
if it dosent work, it could be duff, or you have the coax cross wired somewhere in the line.
use a multimeter to check you have voltage down the cable from the skybox

theres no shorts is there? just one strand will stop the signal going back? thats the most common fault
also plug the eye in but not in the tv and change channel upstairs and get someone to shout if it changes the tv if it does its the tv stopping it

using your tongue as an electrical tester on anything plugged into the mains is not a great idea really, one day you might die if for example you come across an appliance with an earth fault.

Let us know if them other methods work, different makes of magic eyes work ok on some boxes and others dont.

Are you plugging the cable straight into the other TV or going to a socket first and then from the socket to the TV?
The reason I ask is that mine wouldn't work until I changed the faceplate as it was shielded.

It is not necessary to have a multi room subscription either.

right, cheers all! its working now, it turns out it wont work when the device is actually plugged straight into the back of the receiving tv - i had to put a short coax lead between the 2nd tv and the tv link. not sure why this is, although apparantly it causes too much strain on the device though
I have the TV link in the picture above - works fine!

I have a link from my living room box to my bedroom which worked fine with my Sky+ box but two weeks ago i had HD fitted, now i can't change channels upstairs via the link anymore. I do however still get a picture but no red light on the link, any ideas how to fix this.....

make sure you have the extension plugged into RF2 and not RF1, if still not working, 5v feed to RF2 is 'off'............secret menu - 'Services - 4 - 0 - 1 - Select'

as above - you're not getting power down the coax which is needed to send the signal back down the cable to the sky box when you want to change channel. do what gallois says and turn the RF outlets power supply to 'on'

the tv links do work on some tvs but not on all hence you had to use a lead between which the other one sorts that problem out
