Smile not trying to be a pedant or killjoy but

I am assuming you are not gas safe registered (of whatever it is called)

As far as i am aware if you break the seal on the front or side panels you are breaking the law, it has to be a qualified person who works on it.

For you own sake and those of your family and neighbours get a registered fitter in to fix it. It could have other problems and you could end up hurt or worse.

Its only the auto air vent thats leaking..

Just a simple unscrew and refit after boiler drain..

There wasnt any seals on my panels BTW,and its never been opened since fitment.

FWIW i replaced the extractor fan as well as mine ran poorly and stopped the boiler ingniting due to poor extraction.

TBH i am very handy with a set of spanners, iam am conciencious with my work but with a young family i do doubt i would work on my boiler and leave it to a pro. If it is the extraction then could be carbon monixide issues?!?

No...

The auto air vent is just that.It automatically vents air out of the boiler.. Its like a tyre valve but witha diaphram underneath it. They get dirty and stick.. I could strip and clean it.. But there so cheap its not worth it,its getting my hands on one quickly that is the problem.

I've changed various things on my boiler (pcb, fan) but I let a 'proper' person do the heat exchanger that had rusted.

I don't see why I have to pay someone to do something easy like a PCB when there is no danger in terms of leakage etc...

Grey area; the law ( The Gas Safety Installation and Use Regulations) is very vague when it comes to people working on their own appliance.

Interesting, because its cystal clear that anyone paid for doing it on your behalf must be registered.

I thought with the advent of "gas safe" this ambiguity would have been cleared up, but once again they left it wide open to interpretation.

Well....

Got my air valve from a company in Stockport this morning, and a tub of boss white..

Drained boiler and fitted new valve, refilled and pressured the boiler and bled the rads.

Worked first time and no leaks...Happy days!!!

All for £10.20...

There's usually enough shades of grey in legislation to keep consultants in reputable employ

i went to a gas fire a bloke had fitted himself the other day he thort its easy just conect 1 pipe and smell for gas what he dident know was his flue was totaly blocked and all the fumes had been coming in to the room for two years, his mrs never trusted his DIY skills and never realy put the fire on and felt head aches when it was on.
she wasent happy when i told her he could have easly killed them both and promptley disconected it

OP you did ok but things like this can also go wrong very easy (electric shock, wet PCB flood)

the law says you can work on a boiler as long as your compitent but you must be RGI to get paid for it

Nice one Paul..

Like i said,i dont think i would go in deeper.. I just followed the instructions in the manual that was supplied with the boiler.

I did isolate the leccy before i started messing in the case.

All seems well know though, cycled the system on and off a few times yesterday to make sure..

no probs fella ..you not gonna kill anybody working on the water side of things (unless they cant swim ) and you isolate the boiler

alot of people dont get there apliences serviced theres probably someone in your area doing it for around £40 in the case of the couple i went to last week and almost every week, it could have saved there lives

i think the (plumbers from hell ) type of programs put a lot of people off in fear of getting ripped off

Yep,

Your correct, people are scared to death of plumbers/builders/mechanics as a rule.

The thing that gets me is that the call out charges seem a lot before you even start...I wouldnt expect anyone to do something for nothing, but im sure if they were a little less more people would have confidence..
