Default Does anyone work in sales?

Ive just started a new job and im surprised there are no incentives for the sales people to sell more than lets say whatever work comes in naturally.

It's the only time ive ever been in this situation and find it hard to adjust to not having that carrot dangles infront of me.

Just wondered what incentives, bonuses other people in sales get that actually make them go that extra mile?

Are you sure your in a real sales job? I've only ever had sales jobs and the carrot has been dangled on all occasions. My previous job depended on me getting sales or i'd get no money squared which was quite an incentive.

I am now in a telesales job which blows goats Still I have targets to reach with added bonuses for hitting certain KPI's.

I'm an Account Manager - read sales and we don't have incentives. I've never had in any of my 3 previous sales jobs - 2 x sales engineer and 1 x sales manager, well apart from an annual bonus.

I guess it depends on what you're selling. Stationary sales or the like then maybe, but not in the engineering world in my experience.

I cant imagine ANY sales job not having incentives/targets, bonuses.

Ive replaced the sales manager, unfortunately without his title or pay but there is an opportunity to be promoted in the not to distant future.

One of the first things i would introduce would be individual targets/bonuses and lots of incentives for doing well.

I'm curious to know what other people are offered for doing well, other than cold hard cash lol

Im not in sales.

But at our last BlueSky meeting a colleague asked upper management if they could introduce a production bonus as an incentive for targets we hit, he was told...

Your bonus is that you get to keep your job, your incentive is that you will be paid each Thursday....Next.

maybe its just me being a **** but i go to work to earn cold hard cash, any incentives other than cash would be as welcomed as much as a punch in the face.

Try working in a shop, now there's a job with little to no incentive.

You are expected to do the work of many men, as well as bending over backwards to increase sales and you get no bonuses for it, no that I can hink of how that could really implemented in such an environment.

The only thing we get, is a profit share (normally around £100-200) once a year depending on how the company as a whole performs. And although we are doing quite well, and spending a fortune on rebranding, we haven't seen that for the last couple of years. And they wonder why we're not that 'engaged'.

I work in the City selling software to fund management companies - we are on targets, both yearly and quarterly. The idea is that if you hit your targets your pay will be roughly 40% basic and 60% commission, so that's a pretty big incentive.

Commission is mainly paid on new deals, with only some coming form ongoing work where you are still responsible for signing of contracts or work orders.

If you don't hit or get close to your target you could end up losing your job, but also if we don't sell enough then the jobs of our developers, support and implementation staff are at risk.

So all in all, some pretty big sticks and carrots!

Im a sales manager. Our targets/bonus are Turnover vs Target and margin % based.

Its dealt with by hierarchy. I.e you hit 90% of ££ turnover you get a cut of the margin earnt. (9.5%) As we have the power to lower margins to do a deal, it makes the team more aware of profit.
If we hit 100% we get 11% of margin ££. 130% turnover you get 15% and so on. BUT hit below 80% and you get 6% but the manager earns nothing!! Very clever...

Then - % of margin earnt is split into "factors". Dependant on job role will depend on how many factors each person gets. Managers 3 factors, sales staff 2 factors, warehouse 1 factor!

The overall aim is to give staff the power to lower price to get a deal but you have to control profit as thats what you get paid on!

This works VERY well as you all have to work SMART together as a team too.

Most of the Sales people I work with (in IT) are completely bonus and money oriented. If they hit 100% they get 100% bonus, 110% they get 140% up to 300% accelators. And the bonuses can be huge.

(to be fair, my salary is structured like that as well with a big bonus for revenue and margin attainment)

^^^^^^^ Well done, I bet your a very proud father. I hope my son does as well.

Without a doubt, a pretty girl can sell anything. A few of my female friends are sales reps for GSK / Pfizer / etc, and all the girls are stunners. All slim, big t1ts, fine legs, stunning looking girls, and also very flirty / intelligent. ( Brains and Looks ?? Sounds like a myth to me though :-) )

Pretty girls snake charm us guys ! :-)
