Guys,
Rather than resurrecting threads which aren't really relevant anyway.
I'm got a phone call from Richer Sounds.
My stuff will be there on Thursday
New Denon 1910 Amp with Q-acoustics 1010i 5.1 package
So then, any tips/advice for me?
Thanks,
Shaun

Usual advice, allow minimum 10% of equipment value for cables/interconnects etc.
1.5m-2m between front channels unless you have a football pitch for a lounge.
Rear channels 500mm above ear level
Sub at the screen end (to the left or right), I've found sub behind or at the sofa overpowers and becomes directional way to soon.

Sub will be slightly to the right of the screen.
Cables as part of the deal (Decent cables)
Was hoping for details particulary to do with the amp setup.
Another guy says go for the automatic setup using a mic.
Another says forget about automatic and do it manually.
Now, the real nitty gritty here is that this is my first time with a seperates setup, have always had all in one boxes previously

Heard good things about the Onkyos and was considering a 605 myself. After a few weeks of looking though I decided on the Denon as I know the make, also heard of some Onkyos over heating?.
A lot of people also going on about speaker matching online, and the Elacs I have apparently match the Denons better.....Anybody know about Elac cinema2 speakers? got them for £150 from Sevenoaks as they wanted to clear some old stock. Good solid little things with a great sound, it appears they are quite rare.
Enjoy on Thursday Urban twas a good choice.

wonder how the denon would match up with the B+W stuff i have. my sony 940 has coped admirably over the last 7 - 8 years. Is the HD sound that much better?

I'm tempted to sell my Harmon Kardon AVR255 for a Denon 1910. It was only supposed to be a stop gap until the 1909 came out but I decided to keep it.

in what way. i certainly notice a big difference between DD5.1 and DTS. i have the region 1 version of the bone collector with a dd5.1 and dts soundtrack on the same disc. the difference as angelina tries to stop the amtrak in the tunnel is amazing. sounds like the train is stopping in your living room with the dts soundtrack. i know the dts carrier is "uncompressed" audio, is it much the same with the HD audio or do you only get 1 format on a BR disc?

I've been bugging the life out of him over the last few days - I just wanted to know when I was getting my stuff - I'm sure he figured that out.
There is a cable bundle worth supposedly £155 by creative audio and they're meant to be matching that, although Matt did say that their cable quality was probably a bit better.
Can't wait really - wife is dreading it i think, but thats just a woman thing as they don't seem to like much surround sound - we'll at least mine doesn't

Is DTS better than DD then? I thought it was the other was round but I'm new to this. Sky broadcast films in DD5.1 and the 360 uses DD5.1. Can somebody explain the difference please?

Yo Ho.
The goods are in today
So, I reckon thats a day off work on Friday then to get it all plugged in.
Get the missus out of the road incase carpets have to come up to hide the rear speaker cables, although I'm really hoping I can join the new cables to the old and just pull them through - we'll thats the plan of attack anyway.

Yep it is as its an "less compressed/uncompressed" audio format compared to DD. Sky and computer games generally don't use it as it would on Sky take up too much bandwidth and for games it just takes too much memory up on a disk or they just don't feel it necessary.
Some games do use DTS though. never heard one myself mind.
