Prices will vary loads now as some will still be on cloud cuckoo land and charge like there was no recession and others will charge cheap to get the work? If the room is that bad it may need more than just a skim??? If you work on about £300 it can't be that far off either way.

As said above it may need more than just a skim. If the walls are shot, they will need a coat of carlite bonding and then a skim. Hopefully you can get away with a coat of pva and then just skim them. You could do it in a day if it doesnt need bonding (you cant skim on bonding the same day) so £250 ish, if it needs bonding £300 ish

Course you can plaster over bonding in the same day Bonding only has a 1hour set time so there is no problem adding finish to it!

So you reckon you could skim over bonding in one hour? It would bubble, rip, tear be a nightmare! If you left it half a day you can get over it, but its just not as nice as the next day. 'Hardwall' you can go on the same day no problems

My trowel is bigger than your trowel! We all have our tried and tested methods, as long as we all get the same result in the end who gives a toss?!

Can't help with the recommendation.
However I recently had my kitchen redone.

New plasterboard for ceiling and skimmed.
Walls lightly bonded(Tiles don't come off easy!) and skimmed - 3 guys doing the job, 8am until around 4.30pm.
Cost me £330

Found the plasterer we've used for our last few jobs from Find a Tradesman or Handyman For Any Job - For Free!

Bit like eBay for trades people, you post the job, they bid for it, and then based on feedback and so on you chose one of them to do it (you don't have to go with the lowest bid ). Very pleased with the bloke we used

And yeah £300 sounds about right provided there isn't too much repair work to be done first. Failing that if its really crumbly take it back to brick, dry line it yourself, then get someone out to skim
