I went to a wedding reception there and very nice it was too, but a lot of it is awful. i walked around the main shopping centre on Saturday and the amount of people swearing and screaming in their broad 'Manc' accents was unbelievable.

Ok here is what one woman said whilst walking through the centre 'hey yoos ya ****in' dick, why have i got f**kin' 5 bags and your only carryin' f**king 2 bags, no way is that f**kin' right is it?

I weep for the future i really do.

And the forum which has a Gym, Sauna, Pool, Library, Theatre etc.

I didnt see the program but if they said there is nothing to do in Wythenshawe they are wrong, half of the problem is people dont look as it requires effort and dragging their carcases out of bed, Wythenshawe is probably the best served bit of Manchester with regards to public transport, Within a short distance there is Jodrell Bank, Styal Mill and Tatton Park, Manchester centre with the Science and Industry Museum, Urbis, Aflecks Palace and Manchester Museum (all free) plus hundreds of other interesting things, for those with little imagination they can wander over the M60 to the Trafford Centre and wander round all day looking gormless.

If you cant find anything to do in one of the biggest cities outside London there is something wrong, or is it a case of it being easier just to say how bored you are, drink, smoke weed, go on the rob, impregnate each other and smash street furniture up, may as well be in a small Welsh town where there genuinely is bugger all to do for all the imagination some people have. There seems to be some kind of stigma towards getting involved in anything as it may be considered poncy or the standard "Boring" response.

Read a Book - Nah, boring
Draw Something - Nah, Boring
Leanr an Instrument - Nah Boring

All translates as - requires an effort I cannot be arsed making.

I am kind of from Wythenshawe as thats where my grandparents lived, used to spend a lot of time round there and have fond memories of it, even as kids we knoew is was a bit rougher than Heald Green where we lived but we kind of liked that, never had any bother, my grandad used to take us all the places mentioned and thats the difference, I think a lot just dont see beyonf their little world, retail parks, burger places, the offy and it all revolves around instant gratification when the most satisfying things in life are the interesting places you go, you build knowledge it links together and becomes an interest, if all you are arsed about is crap food, booze, sex, shopping, Computer games, mobiles, telly and getting something for nothing you miss out on those ironic experiences, not sayign I dont like the instant gratification type pursuits but I dont sit round bored waiting for them.

The problem is Scum breed Scum and it filters down in each generation. Each generation has less respect than the one before.

How can these people turn out well with the role models they have. They are taught by their parents to be lazy scrounging scum.

It will only get worse.

After speaking to people at work about it (i refuded to watch it) they said the problem they had with the programme is this upper crust Dutchess that had been born into wealth telling people how to drag themselves out.

A lot of people have bugger all when they are kids and drag themselves out of a hole but it is harder then someone who has been fed a silver spoon and had more opportunities.

does she actually work?
i bet she doesnt.

its not that bad though honest,
if the poles etc can get a job, live ok and manage to get by,
then the peasants can,

the facilities at wythenshawe park are second to none,
infact the other side of northern moor is brooklands, the park there has a steam train running round it.
so it cant be that deprived,

dont get me wrong, i wouldnt want to live there, but the the seeds of deadlegness have already been sown, its too late,

if they dont work, they should be in college, or no dole,

stimulate the economy, build what, maybe a dozen state of the art prisons
chuck them in there if they misbehave.
all the estates would be cleared up. and we would save money on the dole,

if you get disabilty allowance, why can these people work from home.

we had a 40ft drawbar trailer in here the other day, the driver was in a wheelchair, hats off to him.

what a shingin example,

didi you see that lad and two girls drinking stood outside an offlicence saying their ema pays for the alochol. they looked like pidgeons,

are their parents ashamed i wonder?

Doesnt always work like that, sometimes the wealthy struggle for things to do, sometimes the fact you are well fed, clothed, have a house and money in the bank removes the obligation to do anything constructive, some capitalise on it but others just drift with no motivation or obligation to do anything, ok having nothing is demoralising but sometimes so is having too much, depends a lot on the individual and how they deal with their situation.

Fair comment, look at some of the rich brats that end up as alchoholics and drug addicts but its easy for someone who has been wealthy all their life to look down at someone less fortunate and tell them to sort themselves out.

Incidentally i have massive respect to anyone that makes a success of themselves if they come from nothing

Wythenshawe is a sh1thole. Course there are nicer places near it, but it is still pretty grim. (e.g. Moss Side is awful - not far from Didsbury, but it doesn't make Moss Side any better!)

nor do i work in a **** hole, i work in a state of the art office in sharston.

look at the link to the house for sale in baguley is that a **** hole?

did you know according to the daily telegraph ****hole has more company directors per head of population than anywhere in the country.

not sticing up for all of it because parts are bad, what about lymm, or prestbury, are they a **** hole, did you know they have council estates?

If you go to most places you will find a ****hole there - like you say even Prestbury and Wilmslow have council estates on them. Wythensawe has upped its game in recent years and the reason it has attracted so much business i suspect is its good communter links to Manchester city centre and is right next to the airport. There are some nice new builds sprouting up as well but a big part of it i.e. the centre and it has one of the biggest estates in europe are horrible places and certainly not a place i'd want to live.

At least you've got the likes of altrincham, hale and wilmslow not far away - where i live is nice but go a mile in either direction and its a toilet.

Dont get upset mate because someone has dissed your town, some nice areas but admit a lot of it is very poor and downmarket.

Thats the impression i get when i go to visit.

I live in Lymm. I didn't realise it had a council estate. Do the locals know his? Why was this allowed?

Haha - what a load of crock - more company directors than anywhere else in the UK? I suspect not.

I lived in Hale until pretty recently - and have driven through Wythenshawe lots of times (and, yes, I know where the NTL building is).

Put it this way - most people. given the choice, wouldn't choose to live there. I'm sure there are bearable bits of it, but hardly aspirational, is it.

steve vrs,
i was down your way on sunday, we parked over at the swan with two nicks, and waked thru to dunham, we had something to eat at "home" as well,
some friends of ours own the marina where you live.

gordo,
im truly sory if where i live isnt good enough for you

your sweeping statement really annoyed me,
how can the whole of a place be a sh1thole,
dont get me wrong, my kids dont go to school around there and im glad they dont.

what about that council estate in ashley and the one in hale barns, i would hardly call them smart, the centre of altrincham is a turd as well, but it doesnt mean bowdon is awful does it.

this is a house very similar to mine

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-24831815.html?locationIdentifier=BRANCH^35406&incl udeSSTC=true&_includeSSTC=on&pageNumber=7&backToLi stURL=%2Fproperty-for-sale%2Ffind.html%3FlocationIdentifier%3DBRANCH%255 E35406%26includeSSTC%3Dtrue%26_includeSSTC%3Don%26 index%3D60

we have extened it twice, we have two cars often forget to lock them and the shed, and have not suffered any crime whatsoever in 14 years of living there.
infact in the last three months two things have happened on the whole of the estate wino's drinking beer on a bench, which was taken away to stop them, and a van driving round with two irish blokes in looking at fascia's and soffits.
and my mum and dad have been burgled once in 40 years of living in newall green.

regarding the company directors, i dont mind one bit if you doubt me, i dont care in the least, it was in the daily telegraph a couple of years ago, my sister cut it out and left it at my mum and dads for me.
it wasnt saying john harvey jones lived on portway, it was smaller companies, plumbers, cleaning compaines, electricians, builders, that sort of thing.

chief,

that house for sale is in baguley, its on the site of my old school,
baguley hall junior school had its own swimming pool when we were kids.
what do you do for a living to visit these areas.
