Texting AND emailing -- people on their Blackberrys answering emails (which are normally much more involved than a text) whilst driving.

Its not anymore is it, or at least its now an offence to smoke whilst driving, but it is still legal to read a map, brush your hair, put your makeup on, eat food, have a shave, setup your tomtom etc whilst driving, still see all of that going on every day on the roads

Why was the Fiesta driver on the wrong side of the road? taking pics of the accident on their phone?
Oh and the passenger in the rear of the car is clearly seen smashing into the side window, yet when the accident is over and the guy is trying to open the drivers door the window has magically repaired itself?!
It's like the 30mph videos of the mondeo skidding along from a few years back.

That's not to say I condone texting/speaking on the phone whilst driving!

Dare I say .... and any other touch screen device is also much more of a distraction to try and operate in anyway too.

Its only an offence if you are driving a 'company' vehicle is it not???

When driving, your number one priority should be, 'driving'

Using a phone at all while driving should be heavily penalised.

I have never knowingly seen anyone stopped by the Police for phoning or texting.

Does it happen at all?

I have 2 CU80's totalling 6 points. Both for answering my phone, even though I was hands free. In a van even if you shout, the voice rec on the phone doesn't hear you, so you have to touch to answer. Sods law is on 2 occasions I was driving past an observant jobsworth.

Before you shoot me down by the way, a phone to a courier is more important to business than a radio to the cops on the road, and yet they drive around one handed all day gassing to the base. Oh and incoming jobs have to be dealt with within 5 mins or the customers go elsewhere, and you can't pull over on the motorway, because they ticket you for that as well.

My brother-in-law's ex has 6 points for using her mobile (2 incidents, 3 points each time).

Ok. Well, sorry but i'm glad people get done then. The worst i've seen is a chap at the wheel of a huge earth moving truck, going round a roundabout at some speed, one hand on the wheel, the other with a phone to his head. That vehicle could have wiped out countless cars. Sorry but in my opinion there's simply no excuse, the Police should really clamp down on it.

Very powerful stuff.

It should be blindingly obvious that you should not be looking at your phone when driving, but unfortunately some people persist in thinking they're invincible and that it won't happen to them.

The number of people I see driving whilst on their mobiles around my way is shocking! It's ignorant, negligent and potentially lethal.

Personally, I think it's time more draconian punishments were looked into (e.g. a temp ban) as the 3 points and £60 doesn't appear to be an effective deterrent.

Totally agree Tel. The same silly bint is in court this week because she's now being done under the totting up rule. 6 points for mobile usage, 3 points for speeding, then got caught with no insurance, which although it was an honest mistake still left her driving on our roads with no 3rd party cover. Whilst waiting for her court date, she's been caught for speeding again. No sympathy. If she keeps her licence I'll be very disappointed.

this is why dumb ****ing tinny boppers should not be allowed near a car after they pass their tests... in fact there should be a rule that they are not allowed to drive a car even if they pass their test if they are unable to write complete sentences and stop using ****e like "whateva".

Sorry for being biased or whatever but I see and hear about stuff like this more and more lately and it almost always involves some dozey bird texting everyone, doing her make up or what I saw the other day, diving down to go through her bottomless bag in the middle of traffic.. W T F ? !

I haven't got a problem with that, one press of a button to answer a call hands free. You can change the radio station, play with Sat nav, but can't press one button on a phone to answer?

The law needs some consistancy.

+1 No point in having hands free kits if they can be deemed to be illegal.

Strictly speaking, wouldn't anything you do that distracts your attention from driving e.g. fiddling with the sat nav, changing the radio station render you libel to prosecution if witnessed by the police, as surely this falls under the umbrella of "driving without due care and attention"?

I'll think you'll find there is a reason young lads have very high risk when it comes to insurance, but there's nothing like generalising to make a point?!
