Default Ants

How do you kill them off?

May seem a stupid question, but I have tried the powder, and if anything, I think they have become stronger... well it certainly didn't kill them.

I think there may be a huge colony, under my lawn, preparing to take over. They are destroying the grass (crap as it is) where they surface, and since trying to drive them away with the powder, more areas are cropping up where they come out.

Any help appreciated.

If it wasn't for the fact they're ruining the grass, and fear of them getting inside the house, I'd probably leave them to it.

Lisa, we've had a problem with ants (flying and normal) in the kitchen since about April. I've tried powder, bait stations and now the tube of syrup stuff. They've been driving me crackers!!!

Funnily enough, thay seem to have slowed down a bit over the last week. They're behind the skirting board, and every time I block off one exit or put stuff down, they come out somewhere else. I've never known a year like it. There are loads in the garden as well, but I can live with that. Grrrrrrrrrr..........

We have a mass killfest every May.

Flying ants come into our kitchen, we think they're nesting under the house, colony must consist of billions of the ugly *******.

Via the concrete floor and through the skirting is where we believe them to get in.

Our war started 4 years ago, liquids... powders... traps... relentless little ******* aren't they!!

First year was horrendous, a mass of black ants with wings on the window facing the Sun.

Every day for about 3 weeks we vacuumed 00's every morning, I hated it.

We are slowly gaining ground on them and preventing them from entering the house from underground... this year we had the hoover out just twice, so we're winning the war, they're moving outside.

Ants, flys and wasps.. I mean reallly, what is the fukcing point of them!

Good luck!

Yeah, this year definitely seems worse than normal. They popped up in the garden last year, only one little area of them, then seemed to disappear. This year they're back with avengeance.

Until the last couple of years, we've never had a problem with them.

Thankfully, I've not had much experience with the flying ones. Apart from one day, when I went to walk up the shops (sandles on), and they were all over the place. They are fooking huge in comparison to the ones I see in the garden, mostly.

Will that really work, on my grass? Will I have to pour it all over, or just where I see them?

If only.

He's off work for two weeks, I'm off in a week. Can't afford to go away, but it's nice just having a break.

Boiling water worked for me a few years ago. Idea is to pour it down their hole(s). Be liberal, liberal as in I hope you are not on a water meter style

I poured a full jug kettle into each hole each night for a week. No more ants for me

Down each hole There's a few.

I don't mind doing it, if it'll work though.

We're not metered, just rates here, so I guess I can go mad, watch the leccy bill go up though.

It was only sort of tongue in cheek when I said they were planning to take over.

How do I not **** them off? Surely mowing the lawn at least irritates them.

Boiling water is useless and so are the powders etc
I had a friend who worked for Rentokil at the time try to solve it. He was all decked out looking like Buzz Aldrin, and layed his potion down, the buggers were back shortly after. As much as you hate them you have to admire their tenacity.

The little ba5tards seem immune to everything.

If you want my advice - you should move house, you're doomed!

Sprinkle the area with cornflower. They love it, but seemingly cant digest it. They gorge themselves, carrying it back into the colony where they die off.

Also, To stop them going somewhere, draw a line on the ground with washing up liquid. They gnerally wont cross this.

Apart from slowly killing my grass, and god knows what else they could do, in their billions. I had a friend recently telling me her Cable had gone off, turns out the ants were destroying them underground. (the poor bloke who came to look was apparently covered in the little buggers).

Thanks guys, I think I'll just have to try a few things and hope for the best.

I got beaten to it, but I was going to say that Scotty01 will be along shortly to tell you to leave them alone as they do no harm and you should all live together in peace and harmony
