Question I'm sure that I'm not alone in actually wanting ...

... to be offered redundancy?

Some redundancy payouts can be extremely lucrative, certainly I think mine would be ...

Of course, I feel for those who receive the legal minimum.

But, generally, the payments are 'enhanced' ..... I requested redundancy 9 years ago, but was turned down.

I would jump at the chance now, if it was offered - would take me 2 seconds to grab the dosh and leg it!

Anyone else hoping to be offered lucrative terms to pack in work and lay on the beach?

Or do what our company did, offer jobs elsewhere in the chain to avoid paying out, the jobs were 300 miles away.

There is a distinct possibility that the UK will not have the will to want to pay for a Nuclear Defence after the next election .... I think I will beat my mate to that Ferrari if it's still available!

I set up my own business last year without my employer/workmates knowing anything about it *** february this year it was making 3x a month more than my salary so i went on the sick with a bad shoulder on full sick pay after about 7 or 8 weeks they told me they are closing my depot down and i would be transfered under (tupe) law, i spoke with the new employer and the said if the new depot was too far for me to travel they would make me redundant so i opted for redundancy i got all my holidays etc...

what a great leaving hand shake £4k after tax

Pedro,

Remind us how old you are

Surely they would just wait for you to finally retire (or die ) rather than offering you a big redundancy payout

Anyway a quick google revealed
An employer can force any employee over the age of 65 to retire by giving six months notice.
so surely they'd just give you the six months notice

Only if you've got a job to walk into afterwards - Especially in todays market.

Had two redundancies myself, one voluntary and one forced (before I was 25 ).

The forced one I walked straight into another job, the voluntary one I took time out to do up my new house.

Unfortunately when the house was finished, jobs had dried up and I had to take a sizeable step back salary wise.

Overall technically I lost out as it took me two years to get back up to my old salary.
Having a nice tax free lump sum to do up the house (plus the time to do it) though means I wasn't too bothered.

Tell you what Pete you can swap with me i'll be walking away in a few weeks with a few bob (despite our companies best attempts to screw us) and I'd swap it all for a half decent job.

Jobwise in the local paper today there are 2 vacancies for care assistants,a vacancy for a trainee chef and an ice cream seller.

Don't be so fooking stupid. Everyone knows on here that there are loads and loads of jobs, we're just not looking hard enough. Thats the usual line used by the ahem ******* on here.

And yes I mean *******.

(Genuinely hope things look up for you KoT)

Work is scarce out there in certain fields I have found this from first hand experience looking for work recently myself after being made redundant.

I also think when a job or jobs come up that you can do there are so many more people looking at them too unlike 12 months ago when the employee picking were slimmer.

I myself have done 9 interviews since Mid june and have applied for many many more positions in my field, some I probably were over qualified for lol {only through what I have done in the past not exam wise}
I did get told at one why did I want to work for a company that would only be able to pay half what I was on before....lol.

It is a tough old world out there at the moment but there are signs of recovery, construction seems to be moving forward a little.

Pete if you were made redundant you would only be on here all day anyway ;-)
