Rubic Cube

Rubic Cube
Hi Everybody!
For those who remember the craze (nearly 30 years ago - OMG!!) there were some variants on the original 3X3 cube.
There was the 4X4 which was much more difficult and which I have.
There was also a 5X5 and also a dodecahedron which I didn't have enough pocket money for at the time but both of which I have been looking for ever since.
Yesterday I saw a new 5X5 cube in a department store in Ukraine but its 32 quid! I can't believe it, in a country where a beer costs 25p.
Its hard to justify this sort of cash for a toy, particularly when I have a theory that the 5X5 is actually almost as easy as the 3X3. However, if its really difficult and guaranteed to keep me irritable and muttering for months I will have to buy it.
Does anyone on here have had the 5X5 and is it much harder?
Information leading the discover of a new dodecahedron would also be welcome.
Cheers

Cube is actually very easy to solve if you learn a few (think it's about eight total, though some are simply the reverse of others) sequences. There is a great two part youtube vid that I followed.
Can't remember all the sequences now though, will have to dig out the cube and give it another play.

Don't know if this falls into the "rarity" bracket, but i used to have a hexagonal cube. It wasn't official Rubik, but it was slightly harder than the original. It was still a 3x3 matrix, but the edges had been sawn (!) off so that looking from the top, it was a hexagon. Hard to describe, but a good variation on the theme.
Under 30 seconds for an original Rubik is excellent, RoShamBo. Best i ever managed was 38.

There is a clear sequence of how to complete a rubic cube so it just boils down to how fast you can do it. Once you know the sequence I think some of the fun is lost.

Indeed, Ed. Like many people i'm sure, i never actually worked out what i needed to do do solve the harder things like getting the final corners correct, i just learned the formula. If it had been a Saw game and i'd been given a month to solve it without any outside help or lose my arms, i'd probably be typing with a stick held in my mouth by now
