FAO Yoza/Nat - Vintage Rolex Info
As NSR now stands for New/Secondhand Rolex I thought I'd post this for your attention.
After a bit of info please - my father has a Rolex Oyster Royal Precision circ. 1963 which is on a non-original (ie. cheap !) leather strap, and I'm looking into replacing the strap with a bracelet that would have matched the original.
He reckons he has the bracelet somewhere, it was damaged evidently, but we're damned if we can find it. So, any idea as regarding which would have been the original bracelet for that model (Jubilee, Oyster etc), and if so where I could source one. Have the designs changed that much or would a modern equivalent suit, or is it possible to obtain a vintage bracelet from a reputable source ?
I hate the thought of a watch like that one a cheap leather strap.
Any info appreciated.
Cheers
Gareth.
PS - NO I don't intend to part ex it against a new GMT Master II ceramic !!

This could have been done via Private Message, though I understand that yoza has expressed concerns as to the confidential nature of the system. Far better to post this in open forum and continue to lambast those of us who are sick to effing death of the subject.

He needs a vintage Oyster riveted bracelet and single fold over clasp. I *think* the lug size is 20mm. (I've just bought a 19mm one for a vintage Daytona i'm building which is a rarer size). Should be about £100-150.#
Edit - Seems these are more in demand so a lot more than the 19mm one's!

Cheers, much appreciated.
While I'm sure that watch related threads **may** upset some members on the site I'm sure the majority can use their skill and judgment to spot and avoid those threads that contain the R***x word in the title.

I thought of that option, but from my point of view its case of spending £600ish effectively on a bracelet, and being left with an unwearable watch. If I can get a replacement bracelet then job done.
He bought it from an AD in the Middle East when he was serving in the RAF out there, so while there is a certain amount of attachment to the piece its not as if it was a family gift or the like.
Thanks for the response.

Fair point - I meant its only unwearable without any sort of strap/bracelet.
The leather strap thats on my fathers watch at the moment doesn't look cheap to the casual observer, and the watch looks okay, but it would be nice to get it back to its original look.

The original bracelet for the above mentioned watch is the rare riveted elasticised Oyster bracelet.
You wont get one and if you do it may cost you the value of the actual watch.
You could spend a lot of money depending on how much you want to keep the watch original.
If your not worried about keeping it original, buy a high quality aftermarket bracelet.
I have a 22mm Oyster bracelet in my box of bits, its solid brushed stainless with screw in links, it is a high quality brushed bracelet with solid lugs, see if your lugs are 22mm.
I think yours is 17mm though.
