Where to sell old records??
A friend of the family passed away a last year, and we kind of inherited a record collection, the guy had been collecting them all his life, and used to do a bit of DJing so has a very wide selection, they run into the hundreds.
I refuse to have them stuck up in the loft for all eternity so have decided to sell them, but am not sure what route to go down with them, I'm loathed to list them all on Ebay although will do it if that's the best option.
I was wondering if there are any specific sites for selling records as I'm assuming there must be a market for them somewhere.

Cookie, try Rareanddeleted.com, rare and deleted hard to find vinyl records, dj vinyl, rave, oldskool, classic dance music records, piano anthems, Retro Anthems
Can do a search and at least find out which ones are worth something. The rest could be gone on a car booty and then work out what to do with the ££ ones
(I trust the above over HTFR and have used them myself)

99% of them will be worth bugger all, but that one is an example of what may have fallen into the hands of a DJ, particularly a radio DJ if that is what he was, as it was withdrawn and all copies of the sleeve were destroyed; except some weren't because they had already been sent out to some radio stations. The last one I saw on ebay went for more than 500 sovs. Many promo items may be in his collection and it's these that are likely to be worth money.

Buy the record collector rare record price guide about £25 from Waterstones or wherever.
I probably wouldn't go to a second hand record shop unless you know and trust them as there is a good chance of getting "raped".
Unless he was a rare record collector probably only 1-2% of the collection are likely to be of any value and condition of vinyl is very important for value.
In general first press of records on the original labels are sought after for example Led Zepplin I with turquoise lettering might fetch £500 but the later press with orange lettering £40. Also recordings by artists before they were famous for example I can hear music by Larry Lurex later known as Freddie Mercury.
If you happen to find God save the queen on A & M label let me know and I'm sure we could reach some arrangement.
Good luck

If you have any time try and play both sides of each record, not all tracks. Reason is i bought a box full of rock records deep purple, acdc type of stuff inside was a hawkwind album sonicatack in mint cond, it has a double A side but the B side is still printed, been told it's very rare.

Cookie,
You could spend some time looking up what you have over on eil.com / esprit - Rare CDs, CD Singles, Rare Records, Vinyl Records, Albums & Music they will buy them off you if they are in a very good condition too.

It may be worth asking your local newspaper or Council Information Office if there are any regular record fairs in your area. I know that I've seen some advertised in the local press here but beyond knowing that they happen in a local hotel I've no idea which hotel or how often they happen.
Assuming that there are similar events in your area the local rag could probably put you in touch with the organisers.
As others have said though, it would be a good idea to get some idea if there are any gems in the collection and approximately what they are worth before visiting such an event.
