Is it illegal to shoot Magpies?
I live next to a wooded area, and I like the fact that its leafy (except when it interferes with my Sky signal) and you can hear the birds, and feed squirrels etc.
But Magpies are noisey horrible fcuckers, Ive often been woken by them early hours, and Ive just watch one scragging a nest and dropping this poor b4stard on my drive.
Can I shoot them?

I hate them. Years ago, me and my mate were out with our Air pistons. We cornered 2 magpies in this bush. We stood either end shooting at them. Strong little ******* though. Took about 10 slugs each to kill them.

If I was to post up several dead Magpies hanging from my fence, would it be deemed poor taste.
I can see the nests of a couple and I know I could blast it here and now, schools out soon so I may leave it for later on.
Do they sleep in their nests alone or in pairs, and what time do they go to bed ?

Point your CCTV cameras at it and log their movements - if you're going to do it, do it properly

My understanding is that you need a license to trap or kill magpies. I guess it is the same for shooting them. My neighbour is a gamekeeper who holds such a license as we were discussing his recent cull of 17 magpies around my farm.

You can...
Just make sure that there are no squatters in there first.

It is also legal to destroy a magpie nest, even if it is in use. However, old magpie nests are often used by protected species, such as long-eared owls in rural areas and blackbirds in suburban areas, so check very carefully first.

That saddens me deeply. No animal deserves that sort of cruelty

You can try but i bet they are smarter than you are! You must be able to prove they are doing damage to you or your property, they cannot be killed just because they are noisy and have killed a little wild bird chick which is how they survive!! It's called nature!
There is no game licence but there is a general licence which covers pest birds that can be killed in certain circumstances. You clearly have no idea what you are doing so just leave them alone.

I can assure you, they were not smarter than me.
Remind me why they need to drop chicks from mid air and scragg their nests to survive.
Anyway job done, and dont worry no shots were fired.

i don't see how people can come on here and start moaning about animals being killed. its the way of life and around my area there is a lot of shoots and the magpie kill the pheasant poults, also break eggs and kill ducklings as well so are considered a pest.

Cats eat more birds than magpies do, rats eat more birds eggs than magpies do, are you out killing both these as well?
Magpies are a carrion bird, they have a sharp beak and claws for a reason, they squark because its their warning/distress call, if a cat is causing them distress then its the cat that is the problem, not the magpies.
Now killing them is still illegal, you may blame the decline in the house sparrow to magpies/crows etc, but its cats and other vermin (foxes also) and the decline in smaller birds natural habitat (thats us humans btw that cause that) but as rooks/crows/magpies are basically scavengers, they fair much better.
These are a really beautiful bird, intelligent (they can actually be trained to talk ) and most of all, natural for them to keep natures balance by killing other smaller animals.

Scottie are you a bit hard of thinking?
They did not eat the chicks hence why its all in one piece in the photo.
Gravity killed it with some help from a gang of Magpies.
