Default Augmented reality

Any of you come across this?

Covering for a friend/colleague who has a new AR client - only need to write a press release and do a press pack in time for the N97 launch but struggling to get my head around it!!

Have a read... HowStuffWorks "How Augmented Reality Will Work"

The earliest example that I can think of was the original Terminator.

Are you sure they aren't talking about this type of AR? It's where the buzz is a the moment and several firms are using them in marketing campaigns.

I'm doing a lot of AR work in the Flash/Web world just now, but is the same thing really. Use sensors (sound, webcam, accelerometers etc.) to geolocate data overlays on live images etc. I've done a lot of work on the web stuff but more so in the defence/specialist world.

E.g. use GPS and compass in some phones to overlay Google StreetView on your live video camera view. The sensors make sure the StreetView overlay matches the view your video camera sees.

Another example is using face tracking to control onscreen controls. So not only is the display of data "Augmented" but also the control of the display is also "Augmented" by what you do. And the more natural or easy the second part, the control, is the more immersive and "cool" feeling it is.

Matteeboy, if I can help, let me know.

Cheers

Ian

EDIT, if you have a webcam and mic and can run Flash, see here for two little crazy demos: http://ge.ecomagination.com/smartgri...mented_reality

Ian - nice one! It's a "friends" client (we occasionally work with her) and she's away so had it sort of dumped on me.

That does help a lot though.
