Wedding music...
Need help trying to work out most folk are happy with at a wedding.
Ours in just under a year now and i'm really struggling to figure out what direction to go looking in.
Aband looks and sounds better in my mind, but theres more chance of it going wrong....a disco sounds cheesy, but you get the exact music you want and asking the wedding planner what they say is more popular now, is a disco! Besides, a disco will be half the price of a band.
There is also the ceilidh to consider, but a full night of that is too much.

possibly no good to have another scotchlander vote first... mates had a ceilidh and it worked well. we had mad dancing then a dj sort in the corner playing tunes but not too loudly so people could have a rest and a chat then back on with the band for an hour. After that everyone was too creamed to dance to the disco anyway!

Not worried about a Scottish vote fella, the more the merrier.
My bro had a ceilidh, but all the stopping and starting to tell everyone the dance moves is a PITA imo. Having the music for folk to jig to is fine on it's own, but there's no way we'd fork out for both a ceilidh and a disco....though that could then go into a band that does both....then it mucks my decision up even more.

Been to weddings and had....
Disco..
Band..
Ipod... it was good though
TBH a band will have a set routine, that may or may not appeal to
everyones tatse.
All it it needs is some poor cover of wonderwall (lol) , and the evenings
dead before it gets off the ground.
The Ipod was a clever concept, and had a theme running as a playlist...
until some bright spark wanted to see what else was on the pod, and
ruining it lol
Been to a few weddings where the Dj was spot on, and it was more like a
night club, with people dancing non stop all evening..
Disco everytime :thumb;

Many thanks fella.
The wedding planner mentioned DJ's have really became a lot better and more fun, than a few years ago....that the same for yourself? How would you say things have progressed?

What do you mean, what does it mean?
Nice one Mart. Ipod was an idea, but we thought something might have felt as if it was missing?
Zadok is maybe a bit OTT for us....we're not royalty.

See iof you can rustle up some passing Balkan Gypsies. They make a hell of a racket and everyone can jump about without having to know the "moves".
Offer them some cheesey ***** and strong lager and they'll play for days (literally!).

If I was (and I have done several times) going to a wedding in Scotchland I would fully expect and enjoy a Ceilidh - best led by a band with a piper as well for the full shortbread tin lid effect.
It really depends where it is. Weddings I have been to in remote parts of the West Coast (like Oban ) have had the more traditional stuff; Edinburgh more likely to be a DJ.
Think about where the guests are coming from primarily? Are they Highlanders or Sassenachs?

Thanks guys.
Not into the piper thing and the missus isn't convinced by the ceilidh. My bro's wedding in December had a ceilidh, but i don't think it was run very well tbh.
Most of the fam aren't "true" highlanders, but i reckon the ceilidh would have got more folk up to dance.
All the best with it Stephen.

When we got married we made up our own compilation CD's of some of our favourite stuff and things people could dance to, and had our own PA with a CD player attached. Just stuck the CD on, and put someone in charge of sticking the next one in an hour later.
Cost nothing, and was loads better than some cheesy band deafening everyone, or dodgy Daves disco playing music nobody liked.
Most of the old people werent interested in dancing anyway, and the PA was in a seperate annex off to the side, so wasnt so loud people couldnt talk in the main room. Our mates all had pretty similar taste in music to us anyway, and everyone else was just interested in getting hammered.
Stuff what other people what - have music YOU like - if they want something different, they can have it at their wedding - its YOUR day, and you're paying for it.
Some friends of ours hired some weird folk band for theirs, and it was mostly them telling people what moves to do, dosy do's etc... - a lot of people got up to dance for the first half hour, but lost interest after that and it ended up with the band just playing really irritating music in the background while people ignored them.
