Air France plane disappeared from radar 228 on board
Coming from Brazil to France, has not shown up in Paris as scheduled.
Not looking good.
A mid Atlantic search is gonna be a nightmare.

Should have arrived in Paris now, disappeared at about 6am GMT
Apparently time wise that puts them over the Atlantic.... Could be one of those thats gonna be a mystery for a while.
That said, im sure the aviation people have more knowledge, maybe a mayday, a location. More than the media know right now im sure.
Either way I cant see it having made a dramatic water landing in the Atlantic.

No idea, im sure someone will tell us soon.
For the story to be released to the media by Air France though, im sure this has a sad ending.
Fingers crossed they have a rough idea of where its gone down, and can find out why its happened.
Terrible news though. I hope to hear some news on it soon.

Why a search plane wasn't out at first sign of lost communication.
On the other hand it could of been a terrorist attempt therefore search plane also should of been out quick not just crossing fingers Hoping it turns up on time.

Looks like its a recovery mission now. Air France have a terrible safety record, Worst in Europe. World wide only airlines like Cubana and Air China are worse. They must have to put something in place to more heavily regulate them after this.

Yeah it was AF nearly losing (another) Concorde in the North Atlantic that lead to them pushing for it to be scrapped. They were lucky when one of their pilots destroyed an A340 on landing the other year too but everyone escaped before it turned into a fireball.

It would have run out of fuel by now apparently, so its on the ground or water somewhere
Mattee the story link was at the top of the page.
All experts are saying it would more than likely have be "catastrophic" Terrorism not ruled out. But apparently according to a pilot there has been VERY bad weather in the area its gone missing in (roughly)
Ant, everything is reported in a very delayed way, the plane went missing hours before it was announced, so im assuming S&R would have gone out a long time ago, we are only just hearing about it though. Releasing the story to the media is the last thing on their minds.
Just hope the find as much as possible for the families sakes, and get some answers.

An ideal outcome would have been multiple lighting strikes knocked out the electrics, landed on water everyones ok. Seems unlikely but when something happens making a may day is not at the top of the list.
I looked on "the internet" and there is weather problems around there and the radars are not always calibrated as they should be.

One of the frustrating things is that both sides Brazilian and French have launchs S&R, but surely they must know which is closer.
At the moment there seems to be confusion as to where the plane even was last know at. I guess it pays to cover all bases, but seems very disorganised at the mo (not that I know much)
Tim, indeed everyone has said the same about a mayday, would not always be the priority. The HF radio is taking a slating right now.
Cant imagine what the families are going through right now.
I think the one thing at the back of everyones mind right now is to rule out terrorism asap.

Radar does not reach more than about 350 miles so I suspect this is why they are unsure of the location..
Also sounds like they know a lot more info than what is being put in the media - i.e radio converations etc. I susepct this is to make sure they get as many of the reletaives into a back room....

Agree totally with you there Billy, families come first
They have not been too precise as to where the radio call came from yet, but indicated it put it way off the coast.

Reports say....
The plane disappeared about 186 miles (300km) north east of the coastal Brazilian city of Natal and near Fernando de Noronha, a force spokesman went on.

Now they are saying it took off 1900 France time, and last contact was 3.30 france time, which makes it nowhere near the Brazilian coast.
From the official Air France conference.
Very much resigned to the fact there is no hope of any survivors.

Plane believed to have gone down approx 180 miles off the coast of Brazil.
It will be a miracle if anyone survived the impact. Landing on a fast flowing river with the current is one thing, open ocean is entirley different.
RIP.

Agreed though, the chances of anyone getting out alive...... not good.
Guess its time to stop speculating now, let the facts settle in, and wait til there is a clear story to follow.
