WTF pets......
Our house is like a bl@@dy zoo.
2 dogs, German Shepherd (fabulous animal) & Beagle (thick as pigsh1t).
3 cats, two of our own and one inherited from daughter.
1x Hamster.
1x Goldfish.
20 (ish) x tropical fish.
Last of all 4x chickens which my wife bought last Saturday.
She has been pestering for these chickens for ages and I eventually gave in.
She has spent a bl@@dy fortune on a coop, chicken runs, feeders, various sprays and potions and food. The excuse she used was that we would have free eggs. So far had 2 eggs, I make that out to be about £100.00 per egg.
I thought that would be it for a while but OH NO not a chance! Son number 1 would like a bearded dragon. So she is now pestering for one of those for the little darling!
I really am totally cheesed off. We run around like nutters every week with work and our other commitments without having to walk dogs, clean out pets etc. Plus they cost a fortune and the kids have a face on whenever they are asked to help looking after them.
When we walked the dogs on Sunday the kids looked like they were being marched to Auschwitz!!
So question is how many of you guys have pets? How many? Do you like them?
Dave.

My brother and I had a rabbit when we were growing up, and we alternated looking after him. We were only allowed to have the rabbit if we were responsible enough to look after it, and I recall my father saying if we neglected our duties then the rabbit would end up on the table for dinner
Unless you are prepared to look after a pet fully then you shouldn't have one. Goldfish, yes, ok, we know they have short lifespans, and that's ok, but other types of animals, dogs, cats, rodents, proper fish and other things require a lot of attention and I don't think most kids will be responsible enough to look after the animal, and then what do you do?

Sadly down to two dogs now, and a pond (too) full of fish....
Every morning I have to clean the filter out, yuk !
A colleague has just spent £ 300 on having three of her dead pet rabbits cremated
Aren't they an ingredient ? like chickens....
dunx

Markus,
What happens is the care for the pet gets dumped onto the parents.
The German Shepherd (Murphy) is my dog and he gets walked and trained all the time, comes to work with me and drives about with me. I don't expect anyone else to care for him. I wanted him and so he is my responsibility.
The rest of the pets are down to the other member of the family and I've made it clear that I'm not looking after them because I DON'T WANT THEM in the first place!!!
So wifey gets stroppy that cleaning out gets dumped on her when the kids kick up a fuss!
At the end of the day I either chip in or get it in the neck from the wife.
Can't bl@@dy win.
Dave.

LOL
2 dogs, Rottweilers (both brilliant)
1 chinchilla (rescued in 2000 from local animal shelter when we had another one)
1 horse
Committment wise, Chinchilla is by far the easiest and cheapest, dogs and horse pretty much on a par financially and in terms of time, as the horse isn't stabled and we feed it/look after it ourselves. Full livery would be significantly less responsibility, but significantly more expensive, and, to be honest, I suspect we'd get less enjoyment from the ownership experience.
We're fortunate in that we don't both work full time, and when we did, we only had the chinchilla. Just like kids, I suspect, if you can't find the time to look after them properly, you shouldn't have them (or at least have very low maintenance pets)
You need to learn to say no

Nothing in my flat, as I can barely look after myself.
My brother on the other hand....
4 German Shepherds, 3 goats, 2 horses, 1 doberman, 1 poodle, 1 turkey (clive, who they wouldnt kill for my christmas dinner), 2 pigs, and they had a sheep but it got stolen.
Always makes for an interesting afternoon at his place.

I have two tortoises and 8 ferrets
I was meant to breed the tortoises but now they are over five ive realised ive got two females so i guess Alfie needs a new name
I show my ferrets and ive just had a jill give birth to 11 kits but sadly they didnt make it
I dont do "normal" pets

A 4 month old Labrador puppy, 3 rabbits between 4 and 6 years old and a tank full of tropical fish.
Cleaning the fish out and the rabbits out is a real pain in the ar$e and wish we'd just stuck with one rabbit instead of 3. As for puppy well I was asking for trouble with a Labrador so only myself to blame with what she has been up to but love her to bits all the same. I just wish she'd stop the house alterations as her DIY is worse than mine.

1 x Syrian hamster (Jingles)
2 x Roborovski hamsters (Appul & Crumbul)
Luckily for me I'm illergic to pet hair (well more the undercoat on furry animals), so the Mrs knows we can't have dogs or god forbid, cats!
Only dogs I'm ok with (not sneezing or rubbing eyes etc) is my mates 2 greyhounds, which I believe don't have undercoats?
Three above do me fine

firsty its important to realise i live in a 2 bed hse however we have about 30 acres(or more) within 100 yds walk. The most i've ever had is about 30 at one time-3 dogs 2 goldfish and 25 ferrets(3 litters as all ours were so bloody dull(or so well handled from tiny babes-scars take weeks to heal lol) they'd drag the rabbits out as workers or be like lap dogs as pets so were in demand for a good few months till we worked out we were loosing money on each one(we babysat for hols etc).
Now down to 2 ferrets and a pair of 2 yr old rotts(one of which has to go into breed training as the local(s wales) judges think he's got masses of potential <rolls eyes smiley thing> also recently got a jack russell minature terrorist in almost perfect rottie colouring bar a few white flashes-will post a few pics on the old dog pic thread on next few days
cheers richie
