v interesting but they dont mention that

Rocket pioneer Wernher von Braun had been championing an alternative concept called Earth Orbit Rendezvous (EOR) since his US Army days in the late 1950s.

was the same guy who developed the V1 and V2 for **** Germany in the 30's and 40's

I thought that was how America got where it is today - by grabbing the German scientists before the Russians could.

Yep apparently it was called Operation Paperclip

Although the Russian Soyuz project was staffed by captured German rocket scientists too

the final months of the war were a bit of a race between the US and the Russians to see who could get the scientists/technology from the germans

I think it was criticised in some quarters because the concentration camps could have been liberated earlier, had the allies not been concentrating on the rocket technology

The Germans were well advanced in many things at that time, jet aircraft with well made axial flow engines and the rocket fighter too.

All things Apollo fascinate me. I firmly believe that was man's greatest scientific achievement to date.

I often reply "well they can put a man on the moon" and they did it with 16k of memory on the command module

Hodgy02, I work in IT too, but if someone ever replied with a comment like that, I would look at him, like a right nerd, and wonder if he'd ever kissed or seen a girl naked !

:-)

Also, are we sure these guys landed on the moon ?? Many believe they didnt !

I once met Gene Cernan on a flight to the USA and he seemed pretty genuine to me.

Cool to shake the hand of a man who's walked on the moon
