What takes you back to your childhood......
You know the stuff, a smell, sound, taste
For me, it has to be my Mum making bread. Then grabbing some, when she wasn't looking mm mm mm
I can't pass a bakers without going in
Oh and Bagpuss, if I see a toy, I am still tempted to buy

one thing that is quite now is ..
one christmas every morning about something o'clock the original Star Trek series was showing and I still remember to this day watching it and that chistmas being super special.
Now I'm talking about some time around 1972 very ish...... I sat in the same place and watched it every day.
And yes I've seen the new film.

Its only the thoughts of those smells, sounds and taste for me really e.g. the smells of fresh jasmine flowers, sound of Come September on which I would twist like mad as a toddler, and the smell of green mangoes coming from the trees in our garden. All of that is left far behind, only the thoughts of them cross my mind sometimes.
What takes me back to my childhood is the touch. If someone touches or kisses my forehead, it makes me think of my childhood. The tender touch/kiss of my parents, to patronise me not in a negative way but in a caring way. My strength resides in my forehead, so does my vulnerability. Emotional for me, yes. Touching/kissing someone's forehead doesn't happen very often at all in the UK, which is good.

Paul.
You beat me to it, going to say when my missus slaps my ****.
She changed our soap a few weeks ago to Imperial Leather, I know very posh and all. But smelling that, I had flashbacks of being abandoned as a small child in a hospital by my Mother, very strange.
So I called her and twas true. She left me in hospital for an op as a 5 year old and gave the nurses Imperial Leather for my baths.
Strange thing the old mind.

Just watching my kids and seeing them do some of the things I used to do, playing football, action men, riding their bikes, climbing trees etc.
None of this modern, wii fit **** that kids entertain themselves with these days, proper playing and enjoying themselves.

I watched my lad go in school this morning,
the hood on his coat was on his head, thats it no sleeves, and not fastened up,.
three of his mates joined him all messing about in the playground,
i had a huge beam on my face, thinking how much fun he wil lhave today.

Minestrone soup and calamine lotion.
The minestrone comes from a family holiday in Wales, walking (or even being in a pram) past a restaurant and the waft of soup coming from the kitchen.
If I smell minestrone now it always takes me back.
The calamine lotion from having chicken pox as a 7 year old and Mum sloshing it all over me!
33 years later I'm sloshing it all over my kids!

Spot on. Was a major action man fan. Used to collect them like a crazed kid would
Would spend hours in my bedroom setting up intricate battles for them. That and the hundreds of plastic toy soldiers .
Did an airfix model for one of the kids recently and that transported me back

Action Man Figures, Action Man Collectibles - Modelzone
The ones I've seen are exactly like the sets I knew as a kid. My son wants the SAS parachutist, which is good as that's the one I want as well

nooooooooooooooooo, dont show me that
I have a bit of admission here . I was so into them that I collected literally hundreds of kit and accesories and had tanks, jeeps and all the tools for them.
One day my sister decided she would do something nice for me( this was a rare change ) and made tiny little coat hangers for all the kit and there all my action man stuff was, hanging nicely in the wardrobe
Lost my tank commanders headphones once, was gutted. I mean how was he meant to communicate with the driver . I found a suitable substitute but was found out when my sister came back to ask where her Cindy record player and headphones were
I would have got away with it, but for the fact that Action Man commander was sporting a rather fetching pair of pink headphones with the record player tucked down in the turret
