Default Parking Fine while having a permit

Left a permit on the dashboard and went to have some tea, came back and noticed that my window was half-way down and the permit was in the footwell, along with a parking ticket for 60 pounds .

I mean its great that noone except for a parking guy had any desire to take advantage of that situation, but im still pretty unhappy... Is there any way i could challenge this ? Or am i screwed ?

Write them with a photocopy of your permit and say you had the permit on display and you would like to see the photo showing it was not on display.
If they provide the photo and it wasnt on display say you had a dog in the car so the window was slightly ajar, it might work for an appeal.
If they have no photo then dont pay.

Aren't the permits normally sticky?

If they have a photo showing no ticket, then all you can do is appeal and hope.

Then again, you could just pay up - it's cheaper than £60 if you pay quickly, isn't it?

Whenever I leave my window open the alarm goes off ...

Try writing to them with a photocopy of the permit and explain exactly what happened telling them that there was obviously no intention to park illegally.

As already suggested.........write enclosing a photocopy of the ticket and explain it flipped over when you closed the door. I've been ticketed for this twice and got away with it both times. The second time they sent me a plastic sticky thing for the windscreen to put my parking ticket in. Oh, and a snotty letter.
