Drop her off at the hospital and go down the pub with the lads ....... you want to be as FAR AWAY as you possibly can at the point of birth!!
For some silly reason the female of the species wants to KILL the male responsible for the pain ..................

I remember looking at her vag when our first was coming through!!!!!
Didnt want to faint or nothing, just thought 'there goes my fun'

keep well away from "down there" also watch out for parking tickets!
tosser at the William Harvey in Ashford gave me a parking ticket for parking in the layby even though i had left a note and seat had a white towel covered in blood, luckily I did not bother paying the ticket and I threw the bloody towel at the face of the tosser who gave me a ticket

Avoid the lower back massages suggested by the midwives during labour. I did that for my wife and she got through the birth of our first daughter with no pain relief at all. No gas and air for me that time.
Also, if she is a BBA risk (Born Before Assistance) and things seem to be going quicker than you'd imagine, then don't be afraid to call for an ambulance. Our second daughter arrived just 40 minutes after the first signs of labour - in the ambulance. Once again, no gas and air for me

Just take plenty of stuff to drink cause the heat in these places is disgusting. I would advise standing to the side of her too when giving her a drink (at the later stages) as instant projectile(sp) vomitting is not unusual.
She did allow me to pop out for my dinner which was nice
We went in at 10am and our we girl finally came out at 11.57pm that night. Longest day of our lives but worth every second.
Good luck

Just be there for her matey. My lad took a while to arrive after going into hospital. Spend all day in there. When it comes to the crunch, (full blown labour) the Mrs can get evil, no matter how placid in 'normal life'. She called the midwife some really 'unrepeatable' names when she left her side to 'attend' to another 'mother to be'. If you don't want to be 'spewed on', keep her off the pethadine (spelling?). Take plenty of long hard tokes yourself on the gas and air when the midwife leaves the delivery room!!!
My daughter was much quicker. In at 11am, born at 2pm, out the hospital doors at 6pm. No messing, no pain relief (for me or her!).
Good luck, hope it all goes to plan. (If you have one!)

Mini Mars bars and Lucozade help.
Some baby kit so you don't look like a complete muppet like we did.
"Do you have cotton wool" (after the little boys first turd) - "Errrrm, nope"
"Nappies?" "Errrrmmm...."
Have a camera handy too.

i think i can count myself lucky when compared to other posters experiences of labour,my daughter took 1.75 hours from waters broken to me holding her,i was at work when the phone went 1 month early.got home to find my wife on her knees screaming, didnt even have time to change out of my work clothes, blasted up to the hospital, got a wheel chair and went straight to delivery room my god she screamed the place down, mid wife had to ask her to keep the noise down.
my son took 4 hours but he was a home delivery, imho the best way to do it,i just sat there with my wife watching fishing tv progs and making merry with the gas/air.its going to be a sad day when we chuck out are old sofa as m son was born on it.
