uPVC Double Glazing Windows Advice / Info
Hi All
Looking at getting our wooden framed windows replaced with uPVC Double glazing units.
After some advice on good suppliers either nationwide company's or company's in the Waterlooville /Hampshire area.
Seen a few adverts in the local papers for 8 Windows for £1999 or 5 & a door for £1999. I appreciate you get what you pay for, but we are planning on moving in 3 years time and I don't think the wooden ones will last....
I remember buying 8 windows about 10 years ago and I'm sure they cost us close to £4K
Thanks in advance

That seems reasonable compared to what I was quoted for two windows, I suppose you're right about the quality issue though. We were quoted around £750 for one average size bedroom window and also a window of about a foot in width standard height. These were some pilkington K glass, self cleaning or other, seemed a bit over the top!

I'd avoid the national companies like the plague.
Look in your local yellow pages for local companies doing the job, and ask a few around for quotes.
Most will bring references, samples, pics of work they have done etc.
DO NOT simply pick the lowest quote, although the best MAY be the lowest. Have a look at the product, what they offer, how soon they can do it, etc.

This is what I do for a living. Don't use the national ones, they will try and have your pants down. The smaller companies will give you a better service and will be the most cost effective. Make sure they are FENSA registered and make sure the security on the window is acceptable. Shootbolts or bi-directional locking as a minimum. Try to use someone who is recommended from someone you know. It can be a minefield out there when it comes to finding someone who is honest and does a good job. If you need any more advice drop me a PM.
