Question Isle of Wight ferries - cheapest etc?

Anybody know the IOW ferries well please?

Which route is cheapest/easiest to take a car over?

Do you have to pre-book or can you just rock up and go?

cheers

I've only ever done Lymington to Yarmouth. It's probably the shortest crossing. Plus you get to drive through the New Forest to Lymington rather than through the middle of Portsmouth or Southampton.

Last time I went for a weekend away it was £47 return. I pre-booked but it was pretty empty and I ended up getting to the port early on the way back and they said just jump on the next ferry don't worry about your booking.
