Life without the internet ?

Life without the internet ?
Say it got turned off today, permanently, what would you miss, what would you be glad to see the back off and what impact would it have on your life, I was pondering this having ordered an Ipod from Amazon, at lunchtime yesterday, was here today waiting for me when I got home which compared to when I was a kid "Allow 28 days for delivery", and that was once they got the order form via post, cashed the cheque etc.
Its funny, my kids and probably people up to about 20 wont really remember the world pre-internet.

It could never be turned off now
All those business and peoples way of life would disappear overnight
So many companies now rely on the internet that it is now deemed mission critical

I'd be only too happy to see the back of spam, of trolls, and of people who express and spread their opinions despite being clearly incapable of understanding basic science.
I would miss how easy it is to find out information that would previously have had to be either published in print somewhere, or be known by someone I could ask. Questions like:
- what events are on that are to do with...
- who makes...
- where can I get a....
...and so on.
Most of all, though, I'd miss sitting with my laptop in the evenings, idly chatting away about nothing in particular to people with whom I share a common interest.

I would miss the tight deadlines in work because the info is supposedly at your fingertips, bring back the memo pad
I would miss the ability to spend all that money I don't have.
And most importantly, how would I ever be able to communicate with anyone

Overseas is expensive, you pay by the MB, but for £7.50 a month I get 3GB in the UK, and no she doesn't like it, she didn't realise what I'd bought until we went away over the Easter weekend to the Cotswolds

Thank god its not just me.
Well scoobynet wouldn't work for me this morning so to relieve the boredom I did some work for a change
The internet has made the world very small and I think robbed us of a certain innocence. We have so much more anecdotal information about the world and each other. Its almost like we feel like we know all we need to know.

As of last week, I've gone for 10 days without it.
Yes, I did get the jitters
Its great to find something else to occupy your time (I tried my hand at guttering ), but on the otherhand shopping about for the cheapest gadget or item is nigh on impossible without t'interweb.
Work's interweb had a wibble today...which kind of leaves us screwed. As all the invoicing/customer/parts handling is web based

The ability to find out anything about anything .... but, you need to be clever to seperate the seed from the chaff.
The ability to get music which you had long since forgotten about.
I would miss it, of course, but most of my life was conducted without it ... therefore I can think for myself in most cases ... I don't take what I read on the web as gospel.

We were in Anglesey at the weekend (as you know, j4cko ) and my three broadband thing kept causing the blue screen of death on the laptop.
Total nightmare. Nearly had to talk to the wife, but fortunately there was a pub handy and keys in the front door....

It isn't so much the internet, although I would miss the immediacy of finding out information, but email for work.
I have absolutely no idea how I managed to conduct business without email.
