Question Text Speak ....

.... will this be the new language we are all using in about 10 years time when the current crop of kids grow up?

SUM ... instead of SOME, for example?

I understand it when texting, but not when full English could be used .....

OH, yes, on another point I HATE ..... when you BUY something you have BOUGHT it .. you have NOT, repeat NOT, BROUGHT it!!!

Pete, I think this topic has been done to death. Would it not be easier to just link to one of the hundreds of other threads that bitches about it. For posting here it's been covered in the T&C's as far as I know as well.

So...it's a degradation/*******isation of the English language.
It shows ignorance and lazyness etc. can be handy when sending texts for obvious reasons, although I can't force myself to do it even then.
Some hate it, some love it, some just deal with it...blah...blah...blah.

Peoples English (including mine, probably) is getting worse, teachers can't even spell now....blah blah blah....reflection of society as a whole...blah blah blah

Chuck it in the bin by all means if it becomes a battle ... I doubt it will, no-one would defend bad English.

I just had to, sorry!
Doesn't bother me if people spell things wrong tbh anyway, my brother is quite dyslexic and he's always relied on me to help him with it when we were younger, plus most of my mates can't spell, so I hope ya take it as a joke

I work part time at manchester airport, taking kids round the airport and concorde and we sometimes get sheets of questions to answer from kids and I have had lots of sheets with text speak/text on them and everytime I have asked teachers if its acceptable I get the same answer.

"We accept it because its better than nothing!"

I also refuse to answer any questions written like this, and always make a point that as an employer I would throw this straight in the bin.

Good stuff, hopefully the message gets through to some of them!

It's good to hear some positive stuff rather than the usual

Can someone answer me this - why do people type "ov" instead of "of"? It's no more difficult to write it properly whatever system you're using.

Never had a problem with it when people are using a numeric pad to write a message, what annoyed me yesterday was I logged into Facebook and noticed that someone's status' read something or other 1nce... Short for Once. WTF. youve not shortened it, if anything writing 1nce on a numeric pad is harder. Maybe the dumb twonk couldnt spell Once

Text speaking is bad enough, but its the youth of todays trend towards spitting I hate. I drive past a school going to and from work and have noticed how my kids spit for no reason. Disgusting !

At a rip old age of 37, I cant help but feel / believe that rap videos, gansta rubbish, pretend singers that protray a life from the `hooooooood` but were infact from wealthy familes, that have reduced our children to yobs with attitudes !

My son is 10 weeks old, spitting, talking jive will not be allowed and speaking / spelling correctly will be rigiously taught and hit home !

Keep it real people, peace !

I know someone who uses 'brought' in place of bought - hes also a useless texter

as a point of fact when you've bought something from a shop/else youve also brought it ...

he also persists in saying something/anything is rotten - when its reached the end of its usefullness ..

You know what really annoys me is these people who post stuff on the Internet and insist on trying to insert some sort of perceived silence into the text as if it were speech and not written text. All this ....... this ....... and that ..... nonsense, it's completely pointless and very annoying.

Also when people CAPITALISE stuff effort to get their point across. Clearly they have to do this as in real life that's how they operate, they just get really shouty (sic) when trying to express a strong opinion as they are not very eloquent so can't use language to do so. Therefore they just shout you down instead.

Finally the thing that really annoys me is the over use of exclamation marks (!), if you need to use them because grammar dictates one will suffice. Sticking three or four of them on the end of a sentence is really unnecessary and what's this !?!?!! malarkey all about, it's not some sort of secret code you know, only a question mark, exclamation mark, or full stop is required depending on the form of the sentence. We are not thirteen year old girls you know
