Travel Insurance - what a waste of time
Anyone ever tried to claim off their Travel Ins? We were delayed for 24hrs in Feb on our way to the Maldives due to snow at Heathrow. Weve attempted to claim for the loss of our 1st night at our destination and also a $300 no show fee we incurred due to a missed connection again due to delayed arrival.
Travel Ins company (Direct Travel / AIG) wont pay for either. They did however offer to pay £20 each for the inconvenience of the delay. Makes you wonder why you bother paying it. There is a get out clause for everything

I've only ever claimed for the health part when my wife/children were taken ill: They sorted it out, changed and paid for the flights and the hospital.
I was actually quite impressed as it was a relatively cheap travel insurance company ..

I used to work in Shoreham Airport @ Ricardo's. Dull old area really, infact any company with an address registered to Shoreham should be given a swerve.
I had a similar problem with my holiday insurance. I got stuck over in NYC dull a snow storm. Had to stay an extra week, which although sounds good I had already spent my £££ and had to pay top rates for the hotel as Ive gone past my `deal period of 3 days`.
Tried to claim back £800 from the insurance company but in the end got £60. Asking them how they managed to calculate a figure like that, was told £12 a day for food, for 5 days. They expected me to just live i nthe airport, eating there, until the next flight !
So, like the above said, holiday insurance is just for health situations and not for anything else.

My claim from last July is still on going.
All over a $500 bill !
Drama out of nothing or what lol
Still worth having but a whole lot of effort just to get a claim.

We had an extra week's 'holiday' last November, the day our flight was due to leave Bangkok was the day protesters took over the airport. Travel insurance company did not want to know at all. Luckily the Thai government eventually agreed to refund hotel costs but initially we had to pay for it up front and we still ended up £££'s out of pocket (hotel, meals, extra fees at the cattery, many telephone calls back home, OH missed a week at work, tickets for a Simple Minds concert that we couldn't attend...)
We were lucky in some respects that because we have an annual insurance policy we didn't need to specify holiday dates - people that had paid for a specific period were told that not only could they not claim any compensation but also that if they had incurred any medical fees or had anything stolen in that extra week then they would not be covered at all.
