I watched something about that the other night actually. Scary stuff. They are relying on a 15 day advanced warning system that is completely unproven.
I only hope it all works out for them.
I am suprised though at one thing. That global warming and man has not been properly blamed for the magnitude of the earthquakes etc seeminly increasing.

True if Vesuvius errupts the country is screwed but have you ever lived through an earthquake and the aftermath? Whats happening in Italy is another example of the press getting hold of the BAD things and to hell with anything else!
I was living in Japan 1995 when we had a 6.8 magnitude earthquake, for those who've never heard: Great Hanshin earthquake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
We had no water for over a week, no electricity for 2 weeks and no telephone for over a month and japan is a country which is used to earthquakes. So I think Italy are coping quite well, but its not helped by Bellasconis comments about it being like a camping holiday!
I honestly dread what would happen if we ever have an earthquake in this country, hell half the country cant cope with more than a few cm's of snow so an earthquake would be a major, major catastrophy. Suddenly Vesuvius errupting in italy doesnt seem so bad
