Massive quake in Italy............
...................makes me feel sorry for the people involved, as Italy is not very well equipped to deal with the situation (most places are not, but they are for sure not!)
They have loads of old buildings, a non-existent emergency plan to deal with situations like this.
Bad stuff.
Brings the out the 3rd world in the European Union.

Woeful reporting on the BBC again:
1. "Here's a 4-storey building that's collapsed. Next to it is another building that looks a bit similar but hasn't collapsed. That's difficult to understand." No it isn't. And if you are interested then ask an expert to explain so you don't utter such rubbish.
2. "It's these old buildings that haven't been restored that are collapsing." Eh? What's restoration go to do with it. Do you think you'd get planning permission to bring an old stone chapel in line with modern seismic design criteria, I don't think so, nor would it be desirable.
3. Loved the nun saying that its only through the grace of god that she survived. By extension then God wanted to kill a 100 people, for what purpose?
I know they have to throw this stuff together, but they could do a minimum of research before going on National TV
PS. If there is a possibility of an earthquake then a flimsy tent is the ideal accommodation, not a heavy building that could fall on you

By nightfall everyone had been found shelter either in tents, hotels or civic buildings. Seems like a 1st world effort to me.
You do understand that this is a mountainous region accesible only by narrow winding roads? I think even Thunderbird 2 would have struggled.

No it's not. L'Aquila's literally just off the main East-West autostrada, about an hour's easy drive from the capital city. I've driven that route myself and spent the night in a lovely old family hotel overlooking the L'Aquila town square. It's a lovely area and I was seriously considering taking my family there on holiday this summer until yesterday's events. Let's hope they get back on their feet a.s.a.p.

Second, FYI Berlusconi owns most of the media in Italy, which helps matters for him a lot!
Third, I said i feel sorry for the people involved, it's the Italian government which scares the crap out of me, due to the way it processes events like this!
Fourth, the Commander of the US Army/Navy base in Naples has long commented on the fact that Italian government has never bothered to draw up an evacuation plan for the city in case Vesuvius pops again!
Something like 3-4 million people live in the shadow of that volcano!
So as far as who is "all heart", keep those comments to yourself please!

I saw an interview with him, it was quite interesting to say the least.
He was basing all his conclusions on a series of events that precluded the main event, and it all seems quite plausible.
Only problem with his "forecast" is the area that it covered was around 250-300 kms..........
