Animals percieve you as:
a) Food.
b) A source of food.
c) Both.

To build a statue to those *Spy* Dogs (LMAO at that one) and a few pit ponies is laughable. Sure treat animals with respect and kindness but build a statue dedicated to those that died during the war...?
DAZ 4 is quite right is in his opinion and BTW...He's quite entitled to have one.

Well, let's all go to http://www.charitychoice.co.uk and decide which charities are the most worthy. Interesting to note that if you search the animals category, it returns 343 charities, which is more than the combined total of the blind & deaf categories.

As with most of the conversations on this BBS, this one can be summarised as follows:
"My opinion is the one true way, you are all fools"
"Oh no it isn't"
"Oh yes it is"

Rinse & repeat...

she could give the cash to whatever half arsed charity she wanted and it's sod all to do with anyone else.
Perhaps, but its not her money its the license fee payers at the end of the day. Daz is a fee payer and is entitled to feel agrieved at the way its being used.

Right here gooes !!

Felstead - Never read her books Never will

Gordo - Imagine if a celebrity got 100 grand to give to a charity and then donated it to their kids school. Not very popular decision I would think.

Beemer_Deano - Spot on mate. People nowadays choose animals over humanbeings

Cryptwalk - Off her trolley mate !!

Andrewdelvard - You're right, Animals (Yum Yum) !! "If God wanted you to be a vegetarian he wouldn't of made animals out of meat" (Lovejoy) !

Wink

You mean you DID buy her books? what a wally.

Anyway, quite a lot of people get comfort out of memorials like that. It's not for the Animals, it's for the people touched by the loss of their closest friends, their pets.

Question

a bit extreme!? she turn you down one night or something?

she can do whatever she wants with the cash - charity is usually a bunch of **** anyway to either make the donor all holier than thow and/or to fund a cause that otherwise the government would have to be funding. don't all get arsey - it's down to personal choice. this is the first time i've seen someone be judgemental about which charity is chosen!

If by 'war' this means 'Second World War' I think that:
a) There aren't that many people left who lost an animal in that war, and
b) They've had 57 years of peaceful living to get over it.

Now, I like animals and have lost a few pets in my time. But I don't think I'd be grieving for 60 years over one.

You're missing the point here - it's her choice, rather odd for you to be so emotive about it. perhaps she had a family pet killed in some famous battle very dear to her grandfather or something. who are you to be so judgemental?

OK, so which charity on your list should we give all our money to? If pets aren't important, then it follows that most of the other charities aren't either.

what if it was for some of those spying dogs that used to get secrets from germans in WW2- those sort of animals are trained to spy and attack so its not like a pet at home- without them we may not be here today so maybe they should have a statue?

its here choice

Yup, its her choice.

FFS, its only £7k

Not like the lottery millions spent on the bloody opera. And millions wasted on other arty projects that benefit no one except those who don't need it in the first place.

You want to rant, rant about that.

The lottery millions should be spent on medical research (cancer, AIDS, etc, the homeless, (the NHS?) Schools, child (and animal ) welfare, etc,etc,etc.....)

THATS what makes ME mad.

So get things in perspective

Anyone who can't prioritise pets above cancer, AIDS, abused children etc. certainly is the weakest link.

Goodbye!

BTW - I love animals, just know their place in the scheme of things.

Red face

hahaha

closed minds or what!!!!!!!!!!!

It's for people, not the animals. If we spent every penny on research into things like cancer and nothing on culture then the world would be a very dull and uninspiring place.

What you doing owning a gas guzling subaru? you could be driving a 100MPG piece of **** (or even walking) and using the savings to fund research.

Lighten up guys.

I could be barking mad (not again?) but I'd have thought this was a memorial for service animals, horses, dogs etc that were killed whilst serving our country, not cats/dogs & budgies etc who were blitzed during the eh.... blitz.

Had you forgotten about these service animals? Then I'd say we need a memorial of some sort.

Think it's fair to say that £7k isn't going to make a huge difference to the major charities, so why not give to this.

Hmmm,

I know it's down to her personal choice, but I thought part of the point of these charity quizzes was the opportunity to increase awareness of the charities - to most the relatively small amount of money is probably inconsequential.

Will this charity really benefit from mass exposure, in the same way that other (some might say more worthy) charities would?

Question

We're very close to starting a related thread here aren't we?

"Charities - justified or not?"

i.e. most things people collect money for should be funded out of taxes anyway - e.g. sick children should be under the NHS, homeless people from coucil/central government funding etc.

so, are charities there just to assuage peoples' guilt/ to let the government off the hook?

off you go....

"A man cannot live by bread alone, he must have some crumpet" - her words, not mine in case you're wondering.

I'm not sure that the exposure does anything for the charities involved, since most of the celebs tend to give to local charities anyway.

Charity starts at home, I've got a collection tin for beer money in the kitchen. Only joking, but not a bad idea?

point been missed again - everyone can have their opinions about whether animals deserve respect or not. The point is that she could give the cash to whatever half arsed charity she wanted and it's sod all to do with anyone else.

Discuss it, fine, but let's not get to carried away with the strongly emotional ill informed judgements!

Disco, I strongly disagree for two reasons:

i) no matter who she gave the money two there would be a number of saddos in the viewing audience who feel sufficiently aggrieved to take an emotional moral stance

ii) I do not believe in charity at all but don't feel it justified to take a stance against someone for donating money to a charity that I don't like

thank f**k I don't watch the mediocre ****e on TV that results in a second rate celeb giving money to charity. I guess it keep the proles it's aimed at entertained......

Gordo

p.s. this is an entertaining thread - what shall we discuss next?

Cool

Gordo:I'm not saying I agree or dissagree, just IMHO I think Daz is entitled to a whinge up on how his license fee is used.

Agree that this is a funny thread though, p1ssed myself laughing at the name of the charity and p1ssed myself laughing at Dazs response

To think that an animal charity should take precedence over a childrens charity is absolutley absurd.

No wonder there are so many child neglect cases with people giving fricking cats and dogs more care.
Daz is spot on, it's outrageous and shouldn't even contemplate debate.

Cem - My sentiments entirely.

I'm not saying that there's anything criminal or unlawful in what she did, but I just think that what she has given the money to shows the type of person she is............. "a Kn0b"
