Brilliant, and if you like that, look here:

YouTube - Gainsborough Model Railway (pt2),

just one of a few films about the Gainsborough model Railway society's layout, in Gainsborough, Lincs. Built to 7mm scale it depicts most of the East Coast mainline from King's Cross to Leeds Central, with an intensive, authenticaly worked service and most locations recognisable.

The German one is an amazing achievement with a lot more to come. I like the Gainsborough one too.

Not quite as grand but this is the start of my loft layout. Some may know I had a scalextric layout but ripped it up in favour of a 19ftX10ft round the walls table.

The final layout is well over 110m and the weight of the track is about 14kg in total. At semi scale speeds it takes 2 minutes for freight trains to make one complete "lap"

One about three times longer ("real") and fully loaded passes my house once a week.... about 11:45PM. Those big diesels really haul *** ! I even like the sound.

I'll have a look at that when I get home from work Edd, YT is blocked here.

Dunx if you like the sound search Deltic on youtube, greatest diesel train engine ever.

My maximum train length is 250cm. The 66 hauling the HHA is actually a longer than the 37 hauling the coalfish but because the coalfish are small it makes it look like a longer train. Its not as long as prototype but at £20 each, its a blessing!!! The total bill for all the track, points, motors made me shed a tear for the family Christmas budget.

With digital control you can turn off driving lights (they alternate white/red depending on direction) cab lights on some locos too and you can couple and uncouple using digital if your very posh.

The 66 is sound equipped it does start up/shut down single tone and two tone horn. Clanky coupling noises and other noises.

Not mine but an example of a Bachmann 66 start up.

YouTube - Class 66 EWS DCC Model Start up

I also bought one of these off ebay recently. Hornby Class 60 start up.

YouTube - Hornby class 60 rtr sound - 60048 -start up

I've chosen to stop wasting money on Imprezas for a bit and build the layout. When its finished I could probably have bought a mint classic but what the hey - I like it

Quality, they've come a long way since I was a kid, weathering and a bit of do it yourself white cabs and brass nameplates on Deltics was about as good as it got.

Keep us updated on the build

That looks like a good project Edd. My Grandad gave my Dad and me all his railway kit. Included a load of classic steel bodied Wren engines Mum & Dad have just moved house, so Dad finally has a railway room which he's drawing up the plans for.

No more OCD that Impreza tuning.

I have a habit of obsessing over things then dropping them so with the railway I force myself to stop for a while then go back to it rather than go full bore day after day then fizzle out and move on to the next thing.

ChrisB - Wren stuff on ebay goes for a shocking amount of money. Not sure why though but ££££
