Question Decent place for funky/modern tv stands / entertainment units

Mrs wants a redecoration of the main room with new colour scheme and couch etc. I told her if we are decorating then I want to change a few things as well.

At present we have our tv in a unit from ikea which has a cupboard on each side. This unit houses the tv, media centre pc that supplies the tv signal/blu ray etc, av receiver/amp, xbox 360 and a wii. As we have a nearly 9 month baby who is crawling and trying to walk everywhere, I would like a unit that has a glass front so that said units can still receive the signals etc but there is no chance of the little un pulling anything out.

I only want something that the tv can sit on, so it has to be a reasonable height for optimum viewing (wall mounting is a possibility as well), has cable management and I am looking for something that is a glossy type of finish (either red or black). Im not bothered about cupboards at the sides as im toying with different ideas for that at present.

Tried online searches but I cannot find anything remotely like I need.

Has anyone got anything funky/modern, where from or does anyone know where I can get something like described (not customer built)

cheers

Look at kitchen cabinets, add some castors or wall mount them low for the floating look. Check out the gallery on AV Forums for ideas too.

thats what my plan is, kitchen cabinets along the base, make a chimney type breast that the tv will sit in and 3 speakers, then have some spots lights etc. Gonna be doing it myself, should be fun

tv stands come in all shapes and sizes, so to help you narrow down your options, you need to think about the look you want from your stand.

You say that but give it a few more months and the little ******* work out how to open the doors too

Current AV unit has a coffee table and bean bag barracade during the day

Default tv stand

Most large furniture retailers have set up online stores, where you can browse through a wide variety of tv stands quickly and conveniently.

I hate to say, but have you tried Currys?

Depends on what you want of course, but I got a nice 3 tier glass stand from them a couple of years ago.
TV on top, home cinema centre speaker on middle, sky below, and PS3 underneath.

Biggest problem with the open glass stand, was trying to hide all the damn cables!

i bought an Alphason Ambri ABR1100 (as per HankScorpio and corradoboy) from http://www.standanddeliver.com/ just under a year ago for a VERY good price (because it was end of range).

A very solid unit for less than 120 quid

Have browse of their site and see if anything catches your eye.
